Sorry for the late update. Turns out I'm not a great Mario Kart player compared to some.
Moon woke the children slowly, allowing them to open their eyes at their own pace. One child woke up and immediately clung to Moon's pants. Noticing the weight, Moon picked up the child and held him in his arms.
Meanwhile, I had just gotten back from my break, cherry soda in hand. This time, it was a diet soda. The desk employee that was not Stacey made a comment on my shape, so I took it personally like a dumbass. I'd forget about it in a week, going back to normal cherry soda.
Moon walked over, gently placing the child back onto the padded floor. He still followed him like a duckling. Despite this attachment to the kid, Moon seemed like he was having a good day.
"Cherry?"
"Cherry."
Moon's eye lights were brighter than when I left. Nap time was over.
"What exactly does cherry taste like?" he asked with genuine curiosity.
I was having a terrible day. I've ran multiple errands around this huge fucking building. Most were to stock the food vendors around the mall. One notably unpleasant venture was to clean Monty Gator's green room. Apparently, their staff bots were overwhelmed by it.
A child threw up on me earlier today with some noticeable specks of glitter. Minor desk employee made me feel less than okay. Stacey called off for the day, saying she needed to go to court.
It seemed that she and her ex-girlfriend needed to settle who exactly would get the dogs.
And now, I was going to explain to an animatronic jester-clown-thing what cherry tasted like because he has no ability to taste anything. This moment was somehow the light of my day.
"Do you have an idea of what sugar tastes like?" I asked. Moon nodded, slowly taking the bright, sparkly tape off the light switch.
"Okay, so it tastes like sugar, the color red and sleep."
That was the best way I could think to describe it.
Moon seemed satisfied with the answer and continued to remove the tape.
This was not unordinary. Moon or Sunny would ask about certain tastes or smells. I'd describe them with things they can understand like emotions and visual guides. It would help them determine the feeling of experiencing whatever they asked me about. Earlier today, Sunny asked me what pizza tasted like since it was the best-selling item in the mall.
Looking to my right, I saw the other desk employee still sleeping. Moon had told me multiple times that taping his wrists to the arms of his chair was against the rules of the daycare. Sunny reminded me as well when I attempted to do so during play time.
I opened the computer behind the desk and looked through the child register. Parents would arrive soon to pick up their children, minds still fuzzy from sleep.
I shielded my eyes when the lights came on. Moon never gave me a warning when he did that. But I couldn't be mad at Moon right now when Sunny was the one who stood before me.
He spoke quietly, allowing the children to wake up on their own.
"Goodmorning Cloudy," he greeted. It was actually late in the afternoon, but who was I to spoil his mood?
"Goodmorning Sunny. Did you sleep alright?" I replied. I assumed so since Moon was in such a spritely mood today. Must've been quiet in his head.
