Chat's POV

She doesn't recognise me, of course she doesn't. No one does with my mask on.

She is so beautiful and cunning, but I can't tell her that without the mask. Without the mask, I am no one. I am the son of a dressmaker, and I spend my days trapped in my father's shop, tending to the customers and their needs. It's at night that I am free, I leap from roof to roof of this town, catching sight of the castle in the distance and telling myself that one day I will have the courage to meet the princess in person.

And last night, I did that and it was overwhelming and amazing, probably just for me though. Marinette's cold eyes did not warm at the sight of me. But that does not mean she hates me, for she let me get away.

Outside the heralds are announcing a royal arrival. The sounds of hooves clatter against the cobblestone outside and I gulp, knowing that the King has probably sent out guards again looking for who might be the Black Cat. I hastily tidy up the counter and head to the storage room, turning away from the window. I wait, holding my breath as the hooves clatter away. But the sound of the bell ringing startles me, and I know a new customer has arrived.

It's a girl. She is wearing an elaborate rich red dress that fits her well. Her hair and face are veiled by a long shawl. She must be wealthy, or noble, and my inner Chat Noir yearns to swipe the jewellry on her wrists. But my eyes linger instead on her covered face wondering if she'll show herself.

"Can I help you?" I ask, curious. She nods hastily and in doing so her shawl falls off her head and I gasp.
