Synopsis:
"Marriage made him better, eh?"
Never had Poseidon ever been so irritated that he felt like destroying a thousand temples in the name of sheer irritability. And yet, there he is, fuming, plotting for the murder and the destruction of a minor Greek god amidst a banquet organised by his younger brother. 'How dare he?' That was all that he could think of as he stared down at the god from a distance. If it was any other gods, the offender would cower in fear. However, this god must either be incredibly courageous and strong, or incredibly stupid. Poseidon leaned on the latter. His mind was filled with one thousand ways to kill the god as he chatted idly like a young boy with a poorly hidden crush, with Poseidon's wife.
If you are wondering what the offender did, it was actually very simple. The minor god did not offend Poseidon directly; he did not insult his person. He is not that stupid. He had survival instincts after all. Although he might want to sharpen his instinct a bit because that instinct is not warning him of the immediate danger he is currently exposing himself to voluntarily. But who could have warned this fool about the burning jealousy, possessivity that the Ruler of the Seas hid impossibly well beneath his ice-cold facade? Not Zeus anyway! He was enjoying this situation a bit too much! He was ready to bring out the popcorn and watch his normally stoic, detached brother fume with anger!
To every bystander who was acquainted with Poseidon (and those who were not acquainted as well), his face didn't betray his murderous anger. In fact, even if you were to observe his facial expressions intently, you wouldn't be able to find any cues which would warn about the impending storm reading towards the minor deity. He was calm. Maybe a bit too much. But he was relatively serene anyway. Poseidon was not one to start fights out of nowhere. But if the god is betting on this fact to protect him from the wrath of the sea, then he might as well bet on Zeus remaining faithful to Hera for more than one month.
In all Olympus, gods and nymphs alike knew very well how temperamental Poseidon could be. If he is not insulting you, he is staring down at you like you were a mere insect that dared to cross his path. There was only one person that the god did not dare to insult; that was (Y/N). She was one of the lowest-ranked deities in Olympus. By a streak of luck or bad luck - the gods were still arguing about this to this day- she miraculously attracted Poseidon's attention to her. Her gracious smile and kind spirit was something that set the Ruler of the Seas at peace. She calmed him down whenever he felt like he would lose his temper. It was no surprise really that the god of the sea married her. However, it was a surprise to even Zeus, to see how much more peaceful Poseidon became after marriage. Zeus for one, neither his sons nor the nymphs, could claim that marriage made Zeus a better person. In fact, his promiscuity seemed to have grown tenfold after his union with Hera. No one knew if the god of the sky was unfaithful out of pettiness, or if he really couldn't resist the temptation of a mortal woman. Everyone waited with impatience each year for a demi-god to claim Zeus to be his father. Everyone loved the drama that this sort of announcement brought. It was a nice change from their routine. Seeing the god of thunder run away from his furious wife always brought entertainment to the gods. As Dionysus once said himself, "who needs plays when you live in Olympus? Just wait for Hera to hunt Zeus! This is the best play you will ever see!" And indeed it was. No one could make Zeus run that fast as Hera. Her fury ('and she has every right to be furious,' the gods would murmur) was not one which you can easily escape from.
