True Hate’s Kiss

There was once a young girl, who lived in an apple orchard. She was the most beautiful girl in all the land, and she was envied very strongly for it. Her name was Camille.
One day, Camille, or Cam as she was known to her close friends, was picking apples for her mother, who had decided to make an apple pie. Her basket was nearly full, when she came across a muttering little man sitting under a tree.
She greeted him, very nicely, too, but he was quite a temperamental little creature.
‘Who are you?’ He yelled suspiciously. ‘Why are you so beautiful? Even more so than my very own daughter! You will pay for being prettier than my precious gem. I curse you, girl, with ugliness. Whoever sees you after tomorrow morning shall be so disgusted by you that they shall turn away.’  This last sentence was said as if it was a chant, then he turned and ran away, cackling madly. Cam shrugged it off, thinking him to be crazy.

It had been a few years since that Cam had gotten cursed by that man, or fairy, as she soon found out. She had woken up, and had not been able to look at herself in the mirror, that’s how ugly she was.Everyone knew it, because of the veil she now wore. She had had dreams of falling in love, but now they had crashed.
She was, once again, picking apples when she met another fairy. She knew he was a fairy because he told her. He was much taller than the previous fairy Cam had met, and more handsome, too.
Cam was immediately suspicious of this new fairy, JD, but she soon became close to him. They became best friends, and yet, he did not know what she looked like, and she didn’t show him, for fear of him being repulsed by her.
But JD kept pestering and nagging at Cam to show him. She was thinking of a future with him, a romantic future, and decided that it would never be possible unless he knew what she looked like. So she showed him.
At first, JD just stared, but then burst into a huge grin. Cam, obviously thinking that he liked her, leaned in for a kiss. Unfortunately, all she got was a brush of their lips before he pulled away, jumping around like a mad man. He physically changed, right before her eyes, into the little man who had cursed her.
‘Ha! Ha! You fell for my trick!’ He cried gleefully. ‘You trusted me, and now I can finally see how my curse on you turned out! It was even better than I imagined! Ha! Ha!’ He ran off, like before.
Cam went home and straight to bed, ignoring her parents who, bless them, still loved her for all her ugliness.
When Cam woke up the next morning and looked in the mirror, she was shocked. She was beautiful again! She ran to tell her parents, and they were delighted, for they could finally look at their daughter’s face again.
As it turned out, only a kiss from someone who truly hated you could break that curse, and the little man had unknowingly provided that kiss yesterday.
All the other fairytales had gotten it wrong. It wasn’t true love’s kiss that broke the curse, it was true hate’s kiss.
