Sabrina Gilmore was consumed with nerves. People might think that it was due to her college applications having arrived earlier that week, but it was not due to that. She was nervous because she was going to be meeting up with possibly the most attractive boy she'd ever seen in seven hours. That was how she ended up sitting on her floor, surrounded by half the clothes from her closet.
"Sab, Sab! It's here," Rory and Lorelai came bursting into her room, Harvard application in hand.
"Was there a category four hurricane I was unaware of?" Her mother questions, shocked at the state of her clean-freak daughter's room.
"I can't find anything to wear." She complained.
"We're just hanging out all day, or do you want to be dressed nice when your applications arrive?" Lorelai told her daughter. Sabrina simply pointed to her desk where an application to Yale, Cambridge, and her backup school, Kenyon College.
The mother was about to ask why her daughter had not told her of the application's arrival when she was interrupted by news more shocking.
"No," Rory starts with a teasing smile on her face. "Sab has a study date with a Chilton celebrity, Atlas Montgomery."
"It is NOT a date, Mrs. Johnston has just asked me to tutor him," Sabrina defended herself, although the blush on her face made it seem much less believable.
"And who is Atlas Montgomery?" Lorelai asked, feeling thrilled at the new turn of events.
"Sabrina said she bumped into him when I was showing you both to your seats. Hold on, I can even grab my yearbook from last year." It wasn't often that Sabrina showed any sort of interest in crushes, and Rory was glad that her mom's attention would turn away from teasing her.
As Rory left to grab the yearbook from her room, Lorelai turned towards her younger daughter.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"About the applications or about tutoring?"
"Um, both obviously. I deserve to know that the papers responsible for the course of your life have arrived. And much more importantly, I should know when you are going to be tutoring the gorgeous boy that you are totally crushing on." Lorelai responded with her usual humorous tone.
"I'm sorry mom, I got distracted. Especially after that dinner. I just didn't really think about it. Also, I so do not have a crush on Atlas Montgomery."
"Oh but you so do, mother knows best so you really can't argue with me. And even if you won't admit to it, you obviously find him attractive just based on the shade of your face since your sister brought it up."
"Found it," Rory burst through the door.
She sat between her mom and her sister and began flipping through the pages.
"Oh, Junior class president, Honor Roll, can't forget about the captain of the soccer team. You really said go big or go home didn't you," Lorelai teased.
"He's an artist too, isn't he? I've chatted with him briefly with student government." Rory asked Sabrina, receiving the girl's nod.
"Oh, would you look at that, sculpture on the cover photo is credited to one Atlas Montgomery and the photo is credited to some other rando. Let's take a closer look at the cover shall we?" Sabrina's mother rhetorically asked.
On the cover of the yearbook was a gorgeous marble sculpture of an owl, the perch it rested upon was engraved with the Chilton motto. It was an incredible piece of art even before acknowledging how young the artist was.
