Chapter 3

I gasped, getting a closer look at the pictures. They were... No, they couldn't be!

They were pictures of me and that man. Naked.

Gu XiXi POV: 

I couldn't believe it. How did those photos even reach my hometown!? Who took them?! I had so many questions, but I didn't have time to react, as Grandma raised her hand in the air, breaking the stillness of the atmosphere. 

She had a glass of water in her hand as she flung it towards mom, a furious look on her face. I threw myself forward, hugging my mom, shielding her from the flying glass. the glass hit my back and fell to the ground, crashing into pieces on the floor. Grandma yelled a few profanities as she shouted at us, me mainly. Mom cried into my shoulder as she sobbed, her body shaking violently. 

We ignored my angry grandma as mom pulled away to look at my tearful face. "when did you get here darling?" she asked. I didn't answer as I sniffled. Mom looked behind me as she saw the broken glass on the floor. "Omg, xixi, are you hurt? Are you alright?" Before I had the chance to answer grandma turned on the volume of the tv, which had been muted, catching our attention. 

"Headlines: this morning, the heir of the Yin financial group was photographed in a hotel room with a mysterious girl."

"Through the picture, we can see the room messy with all the clothes on the floor. Stay tuned to find out more about this enticing news-"

the voice of the news reporter was cut off as grandma abruptly shut off the tv. "This kind of person is a disgrace for the name of our family. GET OUT! BOTH OF YOU!" She raised her walking stick and had every intention of bringing it down on us. But she didn't get the chance to as the front door was pushed open. In walked a tall man with a confused look on his face. "Mom are you mad agai-" He was cut short as his gaze finally fell upon me and my mom on the floor. "Dad..." I whispered. He looked towards us as his expression of confusion turned into one of nervousness.

Why was he so nervous...? Wasn't he going to stand up for us? 

"Mom..." he said after a long uncomfortable silence. "If she leaves, then who will cook for us?" he asked, not making eye contact with the both of us. "I can still do that for us, I am not that old. Throw her out immediately" Grandma mumbled as she made her way into the kitchen. I couldn't do anything but watch as mom rushed into the kitchen after grandma and fell to her knees, holding grandma's feet. 

"Please, we will not do it again! xixi knows what she did is wrong, and she will not do it again! Please let us stay!" Mom begged. Grandma agreed quickly, mainly because my mom did all the work in our house. "Ok ok! get back to work and you will spend 2 days and 2 nights kneeling in front of our ancestor's altar." Mom quickly nodded as grandma left the kitchen. I stood still, deep in my memories. 

This is my family... Dad was weak, whenever my mom was beaten or scolded, he could only stand in a corner and watch... Mom only knows kneeling down and begging, nothing can be changed. This family makes me really desperate to leave, with my mom, that is. 

I am waiting for the day that I would've earned enough money to take me and my mom far away from this hellhole we call home....

*Ring*

I pulled out my phone from my pocket and looked at the new message.

It's the second day today, xixi. what has happened to you? You're not answering my calls or replying to my texts... This place abroad is very nice! I will be sure to bring gifts for you! After you see my messages, please call me back

My hands shook nervously as I reread the message over and over again. I'm so sorry ze gang... I miss you too, but I'm afraid it is for the best... I hope you forget me slowly...
