"What's that face for?" Miles asked, because I was probably scowling. I opened my mouth to answer his question when he answered it for himself. "Arden?"
"Yeah."
"Have you considered that all your issues are probably just pent-up sexual tension?"
I rounded on my brother. "Did she tell you to say that?"
My brother laughed. "What? No."
"What has she said to you?"
"Nothing, calm down." Miles threw up his hands between us. "It was a joke. "
"Do you two talk about me or something?"
"Jeez Morgan, no. I told you, you hardly come up in conversation."
"Then why are you making that joke?"
"I didn't realize it bothered you so much."
"It doesn't!"
"Are you on your period?"
"Miles, I swear to god."
"Sorry! I don't know. You're so mad, but you just won, so I'm just trying to play catch-up here."
"Let me give you some advice for the future: don't ever ask a girl if she's on her period."
"Got it."
"Let's go get our ice skates."
I walked away, Miles at my heels. I heard him chuckling behind me, but decided to ignore it before I bit his head off. I don't know what him and Arden talked about, but their friendship was getting on my nerves.
I snatched a pair of skates and took them to the bench.
"Ice skating," I muttered. "I can't remember the last time I've ice skated."
"You never went in Baltimore?" Miles asked.
"Nope. There wasn't really any time. Plus, Sarah doesn't like to ice skate."
"What did Sarah actually like to do?"
"We stayed in a lot and watched movies or TV shows."
"You hate doing that."
I shrugged. "It wasn't so bad. I liked a lot of the movies we watched."
"What did Sarah do that you wanted to do?"
"Lots of things."
"Like what?"
"Why are you grilling me so much today?"
"Just trying to know more about my sister's life."
I narrowed my eyes. "I'm going to figure out what you're up to."
Miles laughed, exasperated. "You're insane, you know that?"
I hummed and looked down at Miles' skates. "Don't forget to tighten them more. You'll sprain your ankle."
"Yes, Doctor Whitley," Miles said with a mock salute. I rolled my eyes.
"Hi, Dr. Whitley," a friendly voice said. Miles and I both turned our heads at the title we'd both earned. An elderly man was waving at Miles. Miles stood to shake his hand.
"Hi Mr. Andrews. You remember my sister, Morgan?"
"Morgan, hi." His wrinkled face lit up. "I heard you were back in town. If I'm not mistaken, you're also Doctor Whitley."
"That's right," I said.
"Well, after I'm done asking your brother about my cat, I'll be sure to come talk to you about my old knees. They're giving me trouble again," he said with a laugh. "Smartest kids in town."
