It was always the same old game. Error would go out when the voices got too loud, only to be pushed back into the Anti-Void by Ink when he was as good as done with the destruction. To an outsider, it looked like the classic good versus evil, creation versus destruction. But in truth it was so much more.
In truth, it was a fight between F4t2 and D35t1ny.
Error and Ink were wrapped in the threads of the deities. It was obvious to him, Ink was practically wrapped up by all of the blue threads belonging to D35t1ny. Error thought he had to look similar to Ink. And wasn't that hilarious? F4t3 and D35t1ny claimed to love them and yet they forced their puppet against their chosen champion. Nothing more than a bunch of hypocrites, both of them.
Sometimes Error wished he could stop. Just wanted to settle down and not care what happens to the multiverse. After all, no one else seemed to really care about what became of their multiverse. Not even Ink cared, Error knew that. He had seen Ink get tired of all the fighting, how he wasn't even trying to stop Error from destroying anymore. Ink also rarely created new AUs, for which Error was more than grateful. It meant he could actually take breaks.
But neither of them could evade their job. And while Ink was better at minimizing creation or simply leaving it out in his Doodle Sphere, Error never could. He had tried to just destroy things in the Anti-Void, but that only made the voices angrier. For weeks they screamed at full volume in his ear, enough so that they made him have even more headaches than he already had for the next few months.
"Hey Ink?"
"Yes, Error?"
"Do you sometimes think we can stop? We both know we're tired of it. Why not just stop?" Error heard Ink stop trying to paint his limbs again. Error always wondered how the squid could move so quickly after their battles, where they literally tear each other apart.
"You know we can't. They would never let us. There's nowhere they can't reach us." Ink's voice was full of regret and Error understood. Better than anyone else. You get tired of the same old game after centuries, everyone does.
"Then why don't we just change the rules of the game?"
"... What?" Error couldn't help but grin with a hint of hope at Ink's bewilderment.
"We rebel. But not as you would expect. We have proven often enough that creation and destruction are two sides of the same coin."
Ink's laugh was Error answer enough. Ink did seem to be amused by Error's Plan. That was good. That meant F4t3 would look away to give her child peace. That in turn gave Error joy, which would keep D35t1ny away. So both could plan in peace.
"I don't know if you've gone completely crazy by now Glitchy, because this plan is probably your most dangerous plan by far." Inks grinning face appeared over Error, yellow and green stars in his eye sockets. "You are lucky that we are immortal! Otherwise we would probably actually die."
After that it was easy. They started small. Error publicly created his puppets in public and Ink destroyed one or another piece of art in front of others. Slowly they worked their way up until it came to the point where Error was "caught" by members of the Star Council actively creating something living, even if it was just a cat. And if that wasn't shocking enough, Ink was discovered shortly afterwards, who had destroyed an AU without hesitation. It had shocked the whole multiverse. And if there was one thing that word got around quickly, it was rumors. These rumors soon became faith and faith became truth. And if anything gods could benefit from, it was faith.
So why not use that to give yourself a little upgrade?
Neither F4t3 nor D35t1ny saw it coming. How could they, really? Error and Ink had behaved no differently than they were used to. The surprise only came when the next penalty was due again. The two had planned it down to the smallest detail. They would get their sentences at the same time. So none of the deities could look after their champions. And when it finally happened? It was pure chaos. And the two enjoyed it to the full.
F4t3 and D35t1ny hadn't been prepared for their puppets to suddenly show up with new tricks. And initially it went well for Error and Ink. They managed to push back their tormentors and gain more space.
Until their luck ran out.
Then F4t3 and D35t1ny attacked ruthlessly. And their attacks were relentless, pushing Error and Ink back again. It looked like a defeat when the two got the same idea. Without hesitation, they began to bite their way through the threads. At first they ate parts of the threads by accident, really... Until it was no longer a coincidence and Error and Ink ate their way through the threads to the deities. And it terrified F4t3 and D35t1ny. No one caught in their strings had ever tried to eat them. And it was obvious that all the magic that was eaten with the threads went to the two skeletons. And even when the two got out of the threads, they didn't stop there. F4t3 and D35t1ny were pushed back again until the first bite could be taken. After that it went excruciatingly slow as Error ate F4t3 and Ink D3t1ny. It was a horrible death for the deities, but all the more satisfying for both skeletons.
And when Error and Ink met again after this feast? The two of them hug each other when their still magic-smeared mouths meet. That kiss sealed the transition.
A message was sent through the omniverse, a message to all deities. Puppets became Deities. String and Hollow, an upcoming storm. Nobody paid attention to the message, to the warning. It was not uncommon for new deities to be born. So what should be so special about a new couple?
The omniverse was not prepared for these two in the slightest...
