Moonlight casted shadows on the decaying walls and abandoned furniture. The smell of mold filled the small space I was currently curled up in. Among the shadows I watched for anything that could stir the monsters now resting. I heard shuffling in the other corner of the room. I threw the damp blankets off and silently reached the bundled up monster. I placed my hand on the mound of blankets, damp with dew and slightly jarred the sleeping beast. With a moan, she became awake. "It's time to get up" I whispered to her. Within seconds, the mound of blankets became a small girl. Her hair was a tangled black mess. I moved a lock from her ocean blue eyes and moved the blankets. As she got ready for our daily mission, I made my way to an opening in the rotten wall. The moon light casted upon the trees, making them almost inviting, almost.

As I spaced out, a small sniffle brought me back to reality. I turned around to be met with a pale, sleepy Abby. I reached out and took her small hand. I began to make my way through the abandoned building that was our home for the moment. I reached the exit and moved a large picture hiding two bookbags. I gave one to Abby and put mine on. Something about today felt strange. Normally, we would go out, find supplies and if we didn't run into any trouble we would play Abby's favorite game. She loved hide and seek. Every now and again I will get to see her act like a normal ten year old. I looked down and saw Abby starring at something. I followed her line of sight to see something large moving in the wood line lurking in the shadows. My grip tighten on Abby's hand. "Be careful and stay close" I said as calm as I could. I began to drag her out of our safe home and into the woods.

Ten minutes into our trip we came across more beast and monsters than we had in the last week. Why were there so many monsters near our camp? I pulled Abby to a clearing and told her to sit in the bushes. I bent down next to her and pulled a book out of my bookbag. I began to plot on a hand drawn map where I saw the monsters. As I drew in my book, Abby drew in the dirt. A small smile crossed my face. Little did I know but that brief moment wouldn't last. Branches snapping in the distance caught my attention. I shut my book and placed it back in my bag. My heart rate was racing. Something was wrong. I grabbed Abby and held her tight against my chest sitting on the wet ground behind the bushes. Voices echoed the once silent woods. A group of young men were walking through. Abby stiffened in my arms. These were not your normal rogues, these were Huntsmen.
