"YOU HAVING FUN YET?" My best friend, Olivia, asked me. She lazily held a cup of beer in her hand and leaned against the wall, mimicking me.

In all honesty, no, I was not having fun. It was my first New Year's Eve alone in two years after catching my boyfriend cheating on me on Halloween. I wanted to stay home for New Year's, watching movies and eating my feelings, but Olivia demanded I come to a party with her.

I sighed, "yeah, I guess. As much fun as I really can."

"Babes, I'm sorry. Ben is a dick and you have every right to be upset, but I couldn't let you sit home all alone on New Year's! Why don't you get some beer and find a cute guy to kiss at midnight? You're hot, especially in that dress. If you stop sulking in this corner and go talk to people, I guarantee you'll be over Ben by tomorrow."

"Thanks, Liv." I smiled slightly. I appreciated her trying to cheer me up, even if it wasn't working.

"Anytime. I need to go find Nick. Go put yourself out there and then find me at midnight." She blew me a kiss and strutted off to find her boyfriend.

I found myself wandering to the backyard. A cold breeze immediately hit me as I stepped onto the porch, sending a shiver down my back. There weren't many people outside, just a few groups scattered around. A couple was making out in a lawn chair to the left of me. I rolled my eyes. Fucking annoying, I thought to myself as I sat on the first porch step.

It had only been a few minutes when I heard a voice next to me asking, "hey, can I sit here?"

I looked up to see a tall guy standing above me. "Yeah, sure."

I scooted over to make space for him and he slowly sat down next to me. A little too close for my liking, but I didn't say anything.

"So," he started, "why are you sitting out here all alone?"

"Party was getting boring," I replied.

"It's been boring the whole night."

I didn't respond. I wasn't in the mood to talk to a random boy at a party, even though I promised Olivia I would. And even if he was pretty attractive. But the silence was comfortable, and I didn't mind sitting with a cute guy under the stars, even if we weren't talking.

He looked over at me. "Did a friend drag you here too?"

"Yeah," I nodded. "And then she ditched me to hang out with her boyfriend."

"Where's your boyfriend?"

"I don't have a boyfriend."

"No way!"

"I did until like, two months ago."

"Oh, shit. Sorry. What happened?"

I did not want to talk to this random guy about the worst heartbreak of my life.

"Oh, fuck, that was rude. I'm sorry. You don't have to tell me," he said.

On the other hand, talking to this hot stranger wouldn't be the worst thing ever. "No, don't worry. It would actually feel good to talk about it. I had a boyfriend, for two years, but he cheated on me on Halloween. And a lot of times before that, but I caught him on Halloween. I was trying to change his lockscreen while he was in the shower and found some girl's nudes in his phone. Then I went through his camera roll and found more. Anyway, I kicked him out and dumped him. My friend dragged me here so I could 'meet new people' but I don't really want to. I'm not ready, you know? Like it was literally a week ago."

"Yeah, I get that." He replied. "He's an asshole."

"Oh yeah, I know."

"No, like seriously. I can't believe he would do that. I'm really sorry. He sucks."

"Don't apologize, it's not your fault."

He paused for a second before asking, "what's your name?"

"Y/N," I responded. "Yours?"

"Timothee. Nice to meet you Y/N." He reached his hand out to shake hands.

I took his hand and shook it. "You shake hands, that's weird."

He chuckled. Wow, his laugh was nice. Really, really nice. So was his face. And hair.

We talked on that porch for the rest of the night. Timothee was so easy to talk to. He was so intelligent and funny. There was never a dull or awkward moment during our conversation. He was so incredibly beautiful, with dark curly hair and captivating green eyes. With every laugh, he became more and more irresistible. I had learned so much about him in such a short amount of time. He was wrapping up a story about the time he had dinner with Pete Davidson, Kid Cudi, and Kanye West when someone rushed outside.

"Countdown is starting in 5 minutes!" They shouted.

Timothee glanced at the door. "You wanna go inside?"

I really, didn't want this moment to end. But I promised Olivia I would come find her for the countdown. "Yeah, sure," I sighed.

We wove through the crowd, looking for Olivia. I spotted her and Nick in the crowd right when the countdown hit one minute.

"Y/N!" She shouted as she ran up to me. "Oh my god! I am so happy to see you!"

"You are so drunk, but I'm happy to see you too, I giggled.

"Oh my god, me and Nick - who is that?" She asked, laying her eyes on Timothee.

"Hopefully my New Year's kiss. Go have fun with Nick."

"Good luck girl!" She exclaimed as she made her way back to her boyfriend.

"Y/N, countdown is starting," Timothee said softly from behind me.

"Right!"

10, 9, 8

He inched closer and closer to me.

7, 6, 5, 4,

"Can I kiss you?" He whispered.

3, 2, 1!

My lips crashed into his as everyone erupted into cheers. His hands wrapped around my waist and mine found their way to his hair as he deepened the kiss. As cliche as it sounded, our lips fit perfectly together.

Timothee pulled away, his freckled face flushed a light pink. "I know you said you weren't looking for anything earlier, but could I get your number?"

I place another kiss on his lips. "Of course."
