"CAN I HAVE AUX?" I asked as we climbed into the car. Timothee and I were going on a mini road trip to visit his family upstate.
"Yeah, you play better songs anyway," he replied, handing me the cord.
My playlist shuffled and Timothee rolled the windows down, letting the chilling breeze carry the music out into our city as we drove. The first song that played was Mojo So Dope by Kid Cudi, his favorite artist.
"Did you add this for me?" He smirked.
"Maybe," I answered slyly. "Or maybe I just like the song." I did like the song, but I also added it to impress him. When we first started dating, he was shocked to find out I didn't listen to Cudi. I had listened to a few songs for him and immediately became hooked.
"Can't believe my girl is listening to Cudi for me," he chuckled, placing a hand on my thigh.
The music took over as we continued our trip, consuming the car and traveling down the highway as we blew through cities, belting out the lyrics to every song that played until we lost our voices, disturbing the peace of every car we pulled in next to at a traffic light.
Once our enthusiasm had died down and the songs gradually got quieter, Timothee pulled over.
"Love, I'm hungry," he said. "Can we find somewhere to eat?"
"Of course. What are you feeling?"
He grabbed his phone, searching up fast food places near us. "Hmm... maybe burgers?"
"Sounds good." My phone was still connected to the aux, and I suddenly heard Frank Ocean's voice fill the space around us.
Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style somedayI could see Timothee's face light up when he processed the song playing.
A dream maker
My heart breaker
Wherever you're goin, I'm goin that way"This song reminds me of you," he finally said.
I felt the heat rise to my cheeks. "It does?"
"Yeah. The first time I heard it, back before we met, I thought, like, 'wow, I really wish I had someone that made me feel like that.' Then I heard it again, a few days after we started dating, and I was like, 'I finally have someone that makes me feel like this song.'"
"Timmy!" I exclaimed, playfully pushing his shoulder. "Stop it! You're gonna make me cry!"
"No, babe! Don't cry because I'm being cheesy," he laughed.
"It's not cheesy, it's cute."
"You're cute."
I giggled. "Okay, that was cheesy."
"You still love me though."
I leaned over and pressed a kiss to his lips. "How could I not?"
