"Oh my God.." I struggled to catch my breath. I leaned against the car, crying and breathing heavily.
"Reese, are you ok!" Johnny ran towards me, and looked inside the car, his face turning white.
"Were they your..." I nodded. Hot tears were streaming down my cheeks and onto the ground. Gunpowder was in the background, yanking against his lead to try and comfort me.
"I am soo sorry." Johnny said, leaning down to give me a hug.
"It's not your fault." I reassured him, wiping away my tears. "We need to get going."
"But..." Johnny protested.
"No buts, they are already dead there is nothing else we can do about it." I stood up, dusting off my hands and looked back at my parents. They had been bitten, and someone was here to to put them out of their missory. I walked back over to the store, and looked behind me one more time, too make sure that Johnny was following me.
Once we were inside, Johnny told me to look around for food and other usable items. I walked to the back of the store, finding some beans and cases of water. I put them in the cart I got at the front of the store. i moved to the aisle with the first-aid kits.
At first glance it looked deserted, but when I looked on the bottom shelf all the way to the back, there was one, pretty big kit left. Score, I thought.
"Hey we need to hurry up and leave, we're loosing daylight, and I still need to take you to that colony." Johnny stood behind me with carrots and canned tuna.
"Alright, hey I found a first-aid kit."
"Great job, but lets get going." Johnny said while exiting the store. I grabbed the things out of the cart, and ran to catch up with Johnny.
"Come on Gunpowder." I said. "So, where is this "colony" at?"
"Well, it's just a few more minutes until we get there." Said Johnny. We kept walking for a while in silence. Johnny tried to spark up a conversation, but I was still thinking about my parents, in that car.
My thoughts were interupted when Johnny said " We're here."
Inside the camp like area there were 10 tents and a barbeque. That's when a man, that looked like he was in his mid-40's, walking towards us.
"What's up Johnny." The man said, giving him a man hug.
"And who is this young lady?" Asked the man.
"Oh, this is Reese, I was actually wondering if she could stay here for a while." Johnny said.
"Well I don't soo why not, she is going to havet o work though."
"I won't mind that." I shrugged
"She has a voice." The man chuckled. "by the way, the name's Chuck."
"Well I got to get going, bye Reese." He said while picking me up and hugging me.
"Thank you so much Johnny." I whispered in his ear.
"NO problem kid." He chuckled.
"Good-bye, be safe." I told him.
"You too." Johnny said walking away from the camp, leaving me next to the man named Chuck.
