Envy to Hate

I envied her

the girl

she had everything

The perfect house, the perfect life

she went out every weekend and came back with a new car

Sure, her parents were distant

But mine followed me everywhere

I wished for every birthday that I was rich like her

We don't have money

but she did

and so

I hated her.

I envied him

the boy

he had everything

the perfect family, the perfect life

they didn't have much

but they sat together at every meal

I'd see his parents help him with his homework

they wouldn't eat out much but they'd cook together

I had to Uber or order online

I wished for every birthday that my family was like his

but it never was

he had everything

and so

I hated him.
