The year is 2013. I was 10 years old when I was first adopted. I don't know much about my birth family. All I know is that I have an older brother. I have no idea where they are. At the time, I felt as if I was abandoned. As if no one wanted me. Then, my guardian at the adoption center told me,
"Hey, you're getting adopted today. Your father is here to pick you up."
"Who is he?" I asked.
"Come see." My guardian said.
"Okay." I said.
I come out of my room and I see a younger man, tall, fluffy brown hair, brown eyes standing and waiting to meet me.
"Hello. I'm here to adopt you today, you're joining the Garfield family." He said.
"Hi, dad." I said.
"Follow me. We're flying to England." He said.
"Thank you so much Andrew. We were about to give up on her." My guardian said.
"It's not a problem. I've been interested in adopting, but not for years from now. I just saw how cute she was and couldn't not." Andrew said.
"Thanks, papa." I said.
"C'mon, kiddo." Andrew said, grabbing my hand.

We go to the airport and land in London, England. This is where Andrew had spent most of his life. That was, until he moved to America to pursue an acting career. At first, my father told me that he's single, working as an actor. I asked dad to show me one of his movies. Andrew sighs, but his new movie just came out last year. It's called The Amazing Spider-Man. When I see the DVD, my jaw drops to the floor. I love his movie so much. I had no idea that he was the man who would be adopting me. We sit in the living room and watch the whole movie together. I told him he looks very handsome. I also asked him who the girl is.
"That's Gwen. Her real name is Emma Stone. I'm starting to fall for her." Andrew said.
"Emma Stone, wow. You're lucky, dad." I said, "Will she be my mom?"
"I don't know yet." Andrew said.
"She would be a great mom." I said.
"She would." Andrew said.

Halfway through the movie and Emma comes in. My dad shares just a peck on Emma, and I immediately assume that she is going to be my mom. I look from dad to Emma. I've got this curious look on my face. As if them not being in love on scene was not screaming their in real life romance, then I don't know what is.
"Papa, is that going to be my mom?" I asked.
"Well, honey. We don't know yet. We just made this movie last year. You'll just need to wait." Andrew said.
"Hi, Emma!" I exclaimed.
"Oh, hello sweet pea." Emma said, "Who's this little one?"
"That my daughter. Just picked her up today." Andrew said.
"Aww, she looks just like you." Emma said.
"Thank you. She's just the cutest bundle of joy." Andrew said.

We finish watching the movie. Andrew covered my eyes when that love scene between them came up. I was giggling, but knowing I'm too young to watch. Seeing my dad with Emma just wishes she were my mom. I know I shouldn't force them or rush them. They need their time like every normal couple who is just starting out. Finishing up this movie just made me want more. I hope that they make more Spider-Man movies in the future. The generation before me had Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, now I have Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. I'm wondering who will be next after my dad. It's also inspired me to be an actress when I grow up. It would be awesome to grow up and some day I'll be in an epic movie just like my dad.

Later that night, I'm put to bed and am going to spend my first night in England. I've never known what it's like to live in any other country except America. It will be interesting to see what life is like. The following week, I would experience British primary school. It would be my last year in primary school. My dad enrolled me in Hugh Myddelton Primary School. I put on a school uniform for the first time. Back in America, I never had to wear one of these. Dad drops me off at school and I walk into the classroom, saying my shy hellos. The teacher points to a seat and I take my seat.
"What is your name?" Ms. Hartley asked.
"I'm Shelly Garfield." I said.
"Like the cat?" Ms. Hartley asked.
"Yeah, like the cat." I said.
"It doesn't sound like you're from around here. Where are you from?" Ms. Hartley asked.
"I'm from America, miss." I said.
"It's nice to have a friend from across the pond. We're delighted to have you here. I hope you enjoy class." Ms. Hartley said.

I sit in the class, just quietly listening. I take some notes as well so it looks like I'm doing something. I'd rather not be bothered by my other classmates. It's going to be tough to adjust to this new school system. The whole British school system confuses me. With the whole 1st-6th form, nursery, primary, and secondary school. I'm sure I'll understand it eventually. During lunch, I try my best to make some new friends. I've heard that British people are very polite, but that is not the case for everyone. Then, we continue on the remaining classes of our day.

I come home from school.
"What'd you learn in school today?" Andrew asked.
"Hmm, nothing." I said.
"Nothing? C'mon, you've had to learn something." Andrew asked in a gentle tone.
"Well, I guess I learned something about British history. God save the Queen." I said.
"Pfft." Andrew scoffed.
"You guys have a long, long history. All I know from an American side, we were taken over, then we got freedom." I said.
"Yeah, you're missing a lot there. Don't worry, sweetie. You'll learn." Andrew said.
"I've got some homework. I'm going to my room." I said.
"Alright." Andrew said.
