I stared at Mr Davenport with wide eyes. Everything I had come to learn had been a lie this whole time. My own father, he kept himself away from me... for what reasons?
I felt the world spin around, my eyes clouded over by a message. I was overwhelmed. I just went to space. That's all I was supposed to do.
I wasn't even supposed to be down here. I was supposed to be a normal teenager, living here life with her best friend. I wasn't supposed to move in with him because I thought my parents died. I wasn't supposed to be in that warehouse the day it all went to hell.
I wasn't supposed to be bionic. Yet here I was. Finding out that not only did a new friend of ours discover Mr Davenport's biggest secret, but that my father was alive?
"Nessie?" I heard Adam's voice echo in my ears, looking around in a daze before I passed out. "Goodnight?"
I woke up a few moments later, everyone crowded around me as I was still on the floor. Leo was holding a water bottle as Bree helped me to stand, Davenport and Chase had left.
"What happened?" I groaned, rubbing the back of my head as I sat down on a stool.
"Dude you just passed out." Adam laughed as Bree smacked his arm as Leo handed me the water bottle, to which I quickly started to drink.
"Adam this isn't a time for laughing! We all just found out that Vanessa's dad is still alive!" Bree yelled as I choked, doing a spit-take all over the floor.
"So I wasn't hearing things?! Oh my god." I rubbed my eyes as I felt tears prickle at them. "He faked his death? Why would he do that?" I felt a pair of small arms wrap around me, turning to see Leo giving me a comforting hug.
Everyone then turned to see Chase and Davenport walking back into the lab, both of their steps being hesitant, as if they were afraid to talk.
"Where is he?" I asked as Mr Davenport side eyed Chase.
"I don't know." He started, clasping his hands together. "I can't give the full details because I don't know all of the details, but what I do know is that your dad is in hiding, for what, I don't know that either."
"Wow, for someone super smart you really don't know anything." Adam frowned as Mr Davenport glared at him.
"How did you find out?" Bree asked as she rubbed my shoulder, her eyes full of worry.
"When you were out in space, before the car died, I got a message from an unknown, untraceable number asking if you were safe." Davenport turned to me as I frowned, shaking my head.
"And you're sure it was my dad?" I asked as he nodded slowly.
"I couldn't read the entire message, but he did state he was your dad. I'm sorry Ness, but I think he's trying to find you—"
"Then we should find my dad! If he's looking for me, and he texted you then he knows I'm with you and Tasha." I stood up quickly as Chase shook his head.
"We don't think it's a good thing that he's looking for you." Chase interjected as I frowned at him and scoffed a laugh.
"What? Why would it be a bad idea?"
"Because... if he knows where you are, there's a chance that he'll want to take you home. And without your capsule you could start glitching and reveal your— our bionic secret." He explained as I looked away, slowly sitting back down.
"Oh..." I mumbled, Adam sitting down next to me. "I can't be with my dad ever again.. can I?" I looked at Mr Davenport with pleading eyes as he sighed, dropping his arms.
"I'm sorry, Ness. But I just don't think your dad can know your location." He slowly backed out and to the elevator, leaving the lab as I nodded slowly, forcing a smile.
"Great. This is fantastic." I said sarcastically as Adam sighed.
"Not really. I mean, you just found out your dads alive, and you can't even see him because you're bionic!" He patted my shoulder a little harshly as I glared at him.
"Thank you, Adam. For stating the obvious." I deadpanned as he smiled, poking my cheek.
"Yooour welcome, Nessie." He mused as we all rolled our eyes at him.
"Think about it this way, Ness. At least your dad will be safe if the bionic secret ever comes out. He won't be accused of anything!" Leo grinned and outspread his hands as I nodded.
"Except for child abandonment." I stood up and quickly walked out of the lab, praying that none of them would follow after me.
I made my way up to Davenport's arcade room, stopping to frown when I saw that there was a large amount of games that had to do with him.
"Wow... you're really self absorbed." I mumbled, yelling when I heard Eddie.
"Tell me about it! He's too busy focusing on himself all of the time to ever play a game with me!" He yelled as I frowned at him.
"Because you always cheat." I grumbled, walking over to a claw machine. Most of the stuff in there were high tech electronics, a few of them being stuffed animals.
"I do not cheat! You just suck at all the games we play!" He spat as I turned to him while tapping the coin slot, which zapped for a moment before the claw machine music started to play. "Okay that's cheating!"
"No it's not." I scoffed as Eddie frowned, disappearing from his screen as I failed to catch one of the phones that had been tossed into the machine. "Damn these machines and their weak claws."
"Ness? You in here?" I froze and slowly turned around, seeing Chase standing in the doorway. "Great, Eddie wasn't lying."
"That little b— you know what? It's a robot. Don't care." I smiled with an angered sigh as he shut the door behind him.
"You doing okay?" He asked as I went walked over to another video game, tapping the coin slot as a jolt of electricity flew into it.
"Okay? I'm great. Why wouldn't I be okay?" I forced a smile, not looking at Chase as I started pressing the buttons of PAC-MAN.
"Well... you're kind of slamming on the buttons.." Chase trailed off as I sighed, freezing the game and turned to him.
"Why would I be okay, Chase? Pretty sure we all repeated what I just found out like... a thousand times already." I waved a hand in the air, which ended up shooting a bolt of electricity at a light bulb, blowing it out. "Oops..."
Chase turned back to me and smiled, attempting to lighten the mood. "I'm sure everything is going ti be fine. And hey! Tomorrow that new frozen yogurt shop opens up. We can all go and get our mind off of everything thats happened in the last few hours." He suggested, shoving his hands into his pockets as I shrugged, leaning against the arcade game.
"Sounds good, I guess. I do love frozen yogurt." I smiled softly as Chase grinned, walking closer and embracing me in a hug. I sighed softly, hugging him back and relaxing slightly.
"You'll be okay, alright? We'll all be fine." Chase reassured, staring into my eyes with a soft smile.
"I believe you, Chase. I'll get over this eventually." I hummed as he kissed my forehead and then rested my head against his chest, smiling in content.
But I truly couldn't shake the feeling of distraught. Knowing my dad was alive but I could never see him again.
Would I ever really get over it?
HEYOOOOOO ITS ALMOST BEEN A YEAR SINCE I PUBLISHED BOOK ONE. SORRY IT TOOK SO LING TO WRITE BOOK TWO!!
But it's here now and it's here to stay I swear!! I'm going to try and steer away from just writing episodes, so we'll get episodes and my own chapters! I'm going to do my best to have Ness interact with all the characters from Lab Rats, and hopefully when Douglas becomes the good guy, the two of them will have a great bond (no, he's not her dad. That would be really weird bc of her and Chase.)
Don't forget to comment and vote, and hopefully the next chapter will be out tomorrow!
