For an entire hour and a half, I was trapped inside a tiny truck right next to Caleb who kept his giant arm over my shoulders. I wasn't oblivious to the fact that every so often, the werewolf would try to be all coy and would slightly tug at me whenever the truck hit a pothole. We'd started the ride sitting on opposite sides of the cab, yet once we passed the county line, our sides were touching; and I'd totally tried to squirm away, but the guy is insanely strong! I knew that werewolves had superhuman strength, but I swear Caleb must take steroids or something, for real.
Plus, every now and then, I'd look over and catch him staring at me... or more specially, my shoulder. He'd lick his lips all perverted like before averting his gaze.
Not really sure of what to do or say, I'd remained quiet for the entire drive. The sun was up in the middle of the sky, making the inside of the truck really hot and I was starting to sweat the tiniest bit, especially with the huge werewolf next to me radiating off his crazy body heat. My heartbeat had finally started to slow down, the anxiety that I'd felt starting to gradually be replaced with irritation. But it'll be okay! All I have to do is bide my time and come up with a way to ditch Caleb and this oven he calls Texas.
I tried to distract from the werewolf who was by my side and kept singing along to the country music playing over the radio, and of course because he thinks he's cute, every time there was a lovey-dovey lyric, he'd give my shoulders a slight squeeze.
"♫Don't know how you do it / I love the way I lose it every time / What's better is knowing that forever you're all mine♫" he sang aloud in his country twang, briefly leaning down to nuzzle me at the last line. He paused near my shoulder, opening his jaws wide before jerking away.
Glancing at the speedometer, it looked like we were only going fifty-five miles an hour, so if I did tuck and roll out of the truck, then there's a chance I could live and just be severely injured. It's a risk I'm willing to take.
I forced myself to look out the window, trying to take in all the sights that Sabine County held for me... Nothing.
Legit, I haven't seen a single skyscraper nor ocean, nor movie theater nor seven story mall! What the hell do people here do for fun?! There were trees bordering both sides of the road, but they weren't the tall redwoods like the ones back home; these ones were smaller and they had actual leaves instead of pine needles. Plus, there was a lot of dust in the air that blew around with the wind, and I even saw a cactus. I haven't seen a cowboy yet, but hey, it's Texas so I'm sure I'll run into one soon.
There was a wooden sign that was painted a deep red color, with white letters which read Milam. Caleb took a right at the sign, going down a poorly paved road that was extremely bumpy. Had I not been wearing my seatbelt, I'm sure Caleb would've kept me secure though. Ugh.
"We're almost there," he grinned, his face still all bright and cheery like a kid on Christmas. "You'll love it, Baby! Leif and I built the place with our own hands, and it's really close to the Sabine River and we're only a few miles away from the lake. I'll have to take you fishing there, you ever been?"
"No," I muttered, "we always bought our fish at the Pier."
The werewolf shrugged. "It's different when you catch it yourself, you'll see."
Hell no I don't wanna sit on a boat with Caleb just waiting for a fish to bite a hook. I'll either die from Caleb eating me or from boredom! I just grunted and kept staring out the window as we drove down the little road deeper into the forest.
"So," Caleb coughed, turning down the music on the radio, "there are a few ground rules that I suppose we should go over that I really need you to follow, 'kay?"
