Nicholas "Nahmir" Santana | 18
"Nicholas... Nicholas please wake up. Class is over sweetie."
I was shooked lightly with a soft voice calling out my name. I looked up to see my music teacher, Ms. Bell, waking me up. I looked around the room to see everybody gone, even the hallways were quiet.
"Mr. Santana class ended a while ago but you seemed tired when you came in, so I let you stayed behind after everybody was dismissed."
I nodded and smiled softly, showing off my brace face. Ms. Bell was the nicest teacher in this school. In her late 40s looking 20, she was the advanced Music/Choir teacher. Everybody loved her no matter what. It wasn't a trend to hate her.
"Umm, what time is it?" I asked as I picked up my pray ground bag off the floor.
"Oh honey its 4:15, just turned."
I froze in place as she read those numbers. Shit. Im late.
"SHIT" I quickly grabbed everything together as fast as I could. "I'm sorry for any trouble miss- but I'm late. See you on Monday." I rushed out of her room before she can even reply.
Please god let him not be home. I can't go through this again.
I ran down the stairs to the entrance of the school. If I don't make it in time, who knows what'll happen next.
I ran to the street and looked both ways thinking of the fastest route. I turned right and sprinted down the road. Pedestrians stared at me as looked like a chicken gone loose, but I don't care. I just don't want it to happen again.
I heard a car engine roaring down the street behind me, but it stopped soon as it passed me. I slowed down when I seen the red Camaro back up and the driver rolled its window down.
"AYE SHAWTY!" an all too familiar voice yelled out. I looked through the window to see the one and only, Jay Bradley. Jay has been my best friend since 3rd grade. He stopped some boys from bullying me because I looked like a "Mexican Chinese Man" as they say. How the fuck do you know what a Mexican Chinese man is in the third grade? Since then, we've been inseparable.
"Get in the fuckin car Nickie its boutta start raining." It started sprinkling as he finished his sentence making me rush in to sit on the black leather seats. His specked out car costs more than my life. "Jay oh my fuck- your a life saver." He didn't even give me time to put on my seat belt when the door closed, just started zooming down the street.
"I get outta practice and seen yo yellow ass running down the street like a crackhead" he chuckled. I dead panned him knowing he knows I hate when he calls me yellow.
"The fuck up bitch, I... was inna rush. That's all..." He looked for a split second then back at the road. "So what I'm hearing is... your late? Again?" He came to a stop light and waited for my response with a piercing glare.
I felt my face get hot as I sunk in the seat and looked away. He sighed deeply and turned once the light turn green. I can feel the tension in the air as I knew how bad this conversation was turning. "Nick, why are you-" I cut him off because I didn't want to hear another lecture.
"Jay, please. Not now, okay? I love him, and I can't really leave."
He sucked his teeth as he tightened his grip on the wheel.
"The fuck you mean you can't leave Nicholas? You got yo moms at home worried sick about you. All she knows is her child is attending school but not coming home. I saved your ass saying you was staying with me. Then you can come to my house, and don't say you a fucking burden because my family knows and loves you. We'd make space for you any time and any day."
