It was Chandan's brother calling Krish to update Chandan's status. All was well. Just a short while ago, the wild child of a girl had amused him with her attempts at smoking. He could see her marching away in the name of dinner. Now that Chandan was sorted, he had other decisions to make. Dan insisted on relinquishing his responsibilities as a CEO and working on his passion, which was building new products. On the face of it, it was a crazy decision because Nandini was on a break. He rolled up his sleeves and started walking towards the resort. Down head, immersed in thoughts, he mindlessly kicked a pebble.
"Ouch" the pebble had stuck someone. Krish looked up and it was the wild child.
"Suhasini. Good lord! I am so sorry." I approached her apologetically.
"That is alright." Minax rubbed her toes "Any news from Chandan?"
"He is stable. He will be off work the next few days and work from home for a few weeks." Krish briefed Minax.
"Hmm.. that is good. Better yet, he remembers your phone number." Minax sounded bitter.
"To be fair, he is in too much pain right now to be expecting him to remember phone numbers etc. I had reached out to his family via emergency contact details on our database and his brother got back to me with the updates."
Minax flashed her eyebrows and nodded her head as if she was desperately trying to reign in her wild thoughts. She abruptly turned around to walk away. Krish was puzzled. Did she not mention it was her dinner time?
"So, what do you think of the call earlier today?" Krish threw a question at her, stopping her in her tracks.
Minax slowly turned around to face him. Carefully measuring her words,
"I did not understand it much I guess."
"Which part did you not understand?" Krish was genuinely curious. He valued opinions outside his echo chamber.
"The whole business of cryptos and NFTs."
"Can you elaborate?"
"See, all my working life, I have worked on projects or products that addressed a specific need. Like making it easier for people to own stocks, currencies, options etc. When I look around, successful businesses always address a need. A restaurant addresses hungry people. E-commerce helps a seller meet a buyer and vice versa. There is a tangible need, tangible product or service and real people who use these products or services. But with cryptos, it is not tangible." She explained herself.
"How is it different from, the money you see in your online bank account. It is not tangible in a way because all you see is a number."
"Well, the difference is that I can go to the nearest ATM and withdraw all my money in tangible cash. With Crytos, I cannot do that. And I know my 100 rupees is 100 rupees today, tomorrow and day after tomorrow. But cryptos fluctuate. I don't understand how we are going to use it as a currency when its value fluctuates? Hoe can Dosa be equal to 5 dogecoins in the morning but 6 in the evening because dogecoin fell? "
"Valid point. But the product we are talking about is akin to an e-commerce platform, connecting potential buyers of cryptos with potential sellers. That addresses a need right there."
"Yeah, there is a need but it is just not convincing. It sounds like connecting a snake oil salesman with potential customers. There definitely is a need there but is it really a need?"
"Ah! But cryptos are not snake oil. It is already a legal tender."
"It is? That is crazy. I just don't get it. I mean there are so many tangible and more immediate needs that will have a much larger customer base than these in the air-magical cryptos."
