15. Minax: A Jinx

Minax woke up to Priya's incessant phone calls. After attending the scheduled team presentation and lunch, Minax had retired to her room for a short nap which had turned out to be a longish nap. She groggily opened the door to find an excited Priya.

"Hurry up girl, fix yourself. I have an idea." Priya closed the door behind her and pushed Minax toward the bathroom.

"In God's name! What is up with you? Your fiance stood you up?"

"In God's name! Be positive. My sweetheart will be here in an hour or two. Once he is here, I will be totally inaccessible." Priya winked "If you know what I mean. Don't you disturb me.".

"That's new?" Minax sarcastically tried to get rid of Priya.

"Na..forget about me. Now listen. I found out that Chandan is also staying back over the weekend."

"So?" Minax was totally indifferent.

"So?" Priya could not believe that Minax failed to catch the hint.

"So?" Minax repeated groggily.

"So... you finish the task you started earlier. Thankfully your big bossy brother is not around to ruin your love life." Priya's eyes were twinkling.

"As if.... The dude runs away if he sees me in a 10 kilometer radius." Minax was in no frame of mind to replay the disastrous date.

"Forget it Suha. See, you are here for the weekend. He is here for the weekend. Worst case you spend some time with him and forget about it come Monday. Best case you might end up having a great time, great conversation, great fun and lose your forever single status. For a change, step out of your comfort zone and try having a good time with someone other than your brothers." Priya tried her best to convince Minax.

The last bit particularly had the desired effect.

"I am perfectly capable of having good time without my brothers." Minax mumbled.

"Yes of course Sweetie. And this is a great chance. Listen up now. I saw Chandan at the coffee shop. It is tea time anyway. We will go to the coffee shop and act as if we bumped into him. I will help you ease into an informal coffee date." Priya was brimming with energy.

"If only we were half as interested at work as you are in setting me up with this bloke, we would be somewhere." Minax continued even as Priya forced her into the bathroom.

"OOOOO this is so exciting." Priya gushed after the final dusting of makeup. "You look so pretty. If you ask me, Chandan will be a very very willing company this weekend."

"It is a pain." Minax grumbled.

"No pain, no gain. Besides, this is fun stuff...not like waxing." Priya gave Minax a once over "Oh God! We forgot earrings." quickly rummaging her bag, she found a pair of hoops and quickly replaced them.

"I only hope Sam does not call me in the next 2-3 hours." Minax said wishfully.

"I hope he doesn't call you throughout the evening.. And I am going to pray that this coffee date converts into a candle light dinner date. Sigh..How I wish things would happen Suha." Priya gushed.

Very soon the two ladies found their intended target. Priya delivered as promised and left only after making sure that Chandan was smitten enough to overcome his fear of Sam.

"You are an Americano right?" Chandan  sounded cheerful. Priya was right on him being a willing company for the evening.

Americano? Minax squirmed in her seat briefly. "Yes" she said, feigning confidence, though deep in her heart she was aware of her unfamiliarity with everything coffee.
