Robert
We were decorating Station 19 for Christmas.
Beckett was letting us.
The probie is a girl.
Her name is Jeanette Kelp.
Montgomery, Warren, Gibson, and me have been hazing her.
Jeanette has been sticking with Maya for that reason.
We were back to hazing her as she walked in without Maya.
"Stop hazing her, guys. Especially you, Robert." Andy told us as she walked in.
"Herrera."
"Sully."
People have been calling me "Sully" a lot lately instead of "Sullivan."
"You're Pruitt Herrera's daughter, aren't you?"
"I'm Andy Herrera. Who the hell are you?"
"I'm Jeanette Kelp. Your friends have been hazing me as the probie."
"Excuse my brothers. They enjoy hazing probies."
"Aren't you marred to one of the guys here?"
"Yes, I am." Andy answered, hesitating.
"Which one? Sully or Gibson?"
"I've dated Gibson. Legally, I am Andrea Herrera-Sullivan."
"Then shouldn't that be on the back of your Firefighter jacket?"
"Herrera-Sullivan" is too long to fit on the back of my Firefighter jacket."
"Was he mad that you didn't drop "Herrera?"
"No. He understood why I was keeping "Herrera" and adding Sullivan. Instead of dropping "Herrera."
"Why did you keep "Herrera?"
"You ask a lot of questions, don't you?"
"I just like to get to know female Firefighters better."
"I kept "Herrera" because Dad... Captain Herrera was dying. He gave me away on the day he died. I guess I picked the right day to say "I Do."
"Why don't I see a lot of you around here? Miranda comes in almost everyday with Warren."
"I'm just really busy with being Captain of 23. I don't have the time to join Robert in the mornings." Andy lied.
"You are a terrible liar, Andy Herrera-Sullivan."
"Just call me "Andy" or "Herrera." Everybody else does."
"Andy it is."
"You want to put the star on the tree?" I questioned Andy.
"Yeah."
Gibson gave her the star.
Andy laughed as I easily picked her up by the waist.
She put the star on the tree.
Miranda entered with Pru.
"Aunt Andy!" She called.
I sat Andy back on her feet on the floor.
She picked Pru up.
"How do you let your Wife go into fires?" It was Miller's Mom, Ifeya.
"Who? Me?" I questioned since Carina was in the Kitchen too.
"Yes. Fires are dangerous. She could die in a fire."
"Well, she picked to be a Firefighter. She passed the Fire Academy with flying colors. And she learned more tricks and techniques from Captain Herrera. I just have to trust that Station 23 has her back."
"Do you approve of her being a Firefighter?"
"I support her decision to be a Firefighter a 100%. It's not my problem that you didn't support Dean's decision to be a Firefighter a 100%."
"Robert."
"I didn't mean to be insensitive. I'm very sorry for your loss. All of us at SFD feel the loss of Dean. He was a good Firefighter and an even better man."
"He is missed around here." Andy told her, bouncing Pru.
She was giggling.
"Captain Herrera taught me how to run a hose at the age of seven. I've been in more fires than you could possibly imagine. I've saved more lives than you could possibly imagine."
"My life is better just because I met Andy."
She looked over at me.
"Well, it's true, Andy. You've made me a better man."
"Aw. That's so sweet." Ifeya commented.
"Unfortunately it's too late to change anything." Andy whispered to me.
"Bill and me used to be like that. So passionate at the beginning."
"If only you knew how long they were dating before they got married." Warren pointed out.
"How long were you dating before you got married?"
"Two weeks." We answered at the same time.
"That's a short amount of time."
"But we were in love with each other for over a year. So, it felt anything but rushed. And Captain Herrera was dying. That's what made me decide to do it that fast."
"Do you regret getting married that soon?"
"No. Because if I didn't, Captain Herrera wouldn't have been there. He died that day."
"How did he die?"
"He was dying from Cancer. But all of us were trapped in a storage unit. Except him since he was retired. He died after venting the unstable roof to save us."
"How did you find the will to fight fires after that?"
"I had help. From Robert and the rest of them. And plus, Captain Herrera would've wanted me to continue fighting fires."
"And now you're Captain of 23?"
"Yep. I got transferred out of 19."
"You'd be such a great Mom."
"Well, it's highly frowned upon for female Firefighters to have a baby. Male Firefighters get congratulated on being a Dad." She explained her reasoning.
"So, you're never gonna have a baby because male Firefighters will have something to say about it?"
"I never said "Never." Captain Herrera told me to never say "Never" unless I meant it."
I pulled a face at Gibson.
He laughed.
"And plus Robert and her aren't in a good place. So... Having a baby right now is not an option for her." Maya added.
"Captain Herrera wouldn't want me to give up that easily on my Marriage. But I don't know if I can risk it all over again."
Andy walked out with Pru while we continued decorating.
