———————————————————-You had been cooking dinner for your family when your five year old daughter tugged at your summer dress, in which you looked down at her and smiled.
"What is it darling?" you hummed, while tending to the food.
"Why don't you and Daddy love each other anymore?" Your smile faded at the question asked by your four year old daughter. You put down the chopsticks you were using to stir your dinner and picked her up, smiling lightly while looking into her sparkling eyes.
"Your Daddy and I do love each other sweetie," you paused, looking out the window behind her.
"Why isn't Daddy here with us then?"
You sighed, as the small smile you tried so hard to keep faded once again. "Sometimes people just need a break from each other. "Daddy and Mommy just need a little space from each other right now."
"But you always need space..." she trailed off while frowning.
You kissed your daughter's forehead and set her down as your 3 year old son came waddling in the kitchen, rubbing his eyes. "Look who's awake!" you said, trying to shift the conversation. Truth is, you and Satoru had been spending quite a bit of time away from each other recently, and it wasn't because of his missions. Every time you thought of breaking the news to your children, you couldn't bring yourself to it. "Daddy and I do love each other." Lies. How could you lie to your children like that? There was no more love in your relationship. The only thing that had kept you two together was your children. But even that, you thought, wasn't enough to salvage what was once there. The divorce papers had a burdening presence in your room, so much so that you preferred to avoid it.
You shook away your thoughts. Tonight is the night we will tell them. "Let's clean up" you told your two children. "Daddy's coming over for dinner." Both of their eyes lit up with excitement, and you frowned as you turned back around to the food.
About an hour and a half had passed and the dinner you had prepared was set out neatly on the table. The kids had spent some time coloring little place cards for your small little family, and assigned your seats around the table. You and Satoru sit side by side, while they sit next to each other on the other side of the table. There were three knocks, a pause, and then an additional one. Then the click of a key.
"Daddy!" Both of your children rushed to the front door, hugging the legs of their father, Satoru Gojo, as he took his shoes off. He smiled down at them before picking both of them up and kissing both of their cheeks.
"How are my two little ones doing?" He set the two down before walking towards the small chabudai which you two were gifted on your wedding night. You made a polite smile towards him as you both sat down at the seats your children assigned. "Come, sit," he gestured towards the kids as they both came running to their seats. He placed a light kiss on your forehead before you all said your thanks and then began eating.
Some time passed. You were concluding your meal together as you heard Satoru sigh, and you looked down. How could you possibly tell them? They really love seeing us two together... but it's just not working out.
"Kids..." Gojo trailed off. "Your mother and I have to tell you something." The two had stopped playing with each other, and their eyes locked on their two parents across the table. Satoru sighed once again. "Mommy and I are getting a divorce..." he paused again, glancing over at you as a single tear fell into your lap. Those words broke you, and you couldn't bear looking at your two children. He continued, "What that means is that Mommy and I aren't going to be living with each other. I'm going to have my own house, and Mommy is going to stay here."
Your two children were silent until your daughter spoke up. "But Mommy said you two loved each other..." her voice faltered slightly. You looked up at her to see tears running down her face, your son showed no reaction.
Satoru grabbed her hand and smiled softly, "sometimes things don't work out sweetheart. But you two will still get to live with us. You'll take turns at our houses and you'll get to see both of us." You watched as her heart broke in front of you. She took her brother's hand and ran to her room, closing the door behind the two. You sighed and gave a weak smile to Satoru, who you had paid little attention to throughout dinner. You were shocked to see his bright blue eyes stained red, and his cheeks wet with tears. You looked down as his voice cracked. "How can we do this to them?" He whispered, defeated. You said nothing in return. How could you?—————
MUAHAHAHA >:) I'm so evil I know. I was going to make it a happy ending but i decided against it. Enjoy imagining your own happy endings >:)
