The next morning, you awoke straight to the memories of the night before. After overhearing Lila's conversation, you'd retreated to your bedroom without anyone noticing that you'd even left. Even though you wanted to ask Lila your questions, you reckoned she'd just dismiss you again. You figured that you would need to find answers yourself if you truly wanted to know what was going on.
So you'd returned to your bed, and because you could not fight the effects of the medication, you had drifted off into slumber effortlessly.
But even though your body had fallen into a state of rest, your mind seemed to have been working overtime, hence your immediate memory of the night before.
Your eyes drifted to the little clock that sat atop your bedside table, and you noted that the time was almost six-thirty.
"Great," you mumbled to yourself sarcastically, knowing that the pain would start setting in over the next ten minutes.
As if on cue, Mark knocked at your bedroom door, and you knew that it was him by the sound of his voice that swiftly followed the knocks.
"Hey, (Y/N), are you awake?"
"Yep!" you answered, slowly sitting up.
"Can I come in?" he asked.
"Of course!" you laughed a little.
You heard him chuckle as he pushed open the door, peeking in to see you.
"There you are," he grinned, entering the room. "Lila just left for work, so that was my cue to check on you. I didn't think you'd be up so early, though,"
"She left for work this early?" you widened your eyes.
"Yes, she received a promotion last year, and they demand more hours, so she starts earlier now," he smiled, walking over to you. "How are you feeling, though?"
"You mean do I remember anything?" you laughed again as he shook his head.
"No, I mean, is the pain as bad as yesterday?" he clarified.
"Not yet," you raised your eyebrows.
"I figured," he extended his hand so that he could help you out of bed. "Come on, I'll help you take your first round of medication,"
"Thanks," you took his hand, further allowing him to guide you to your feet gently.
Once he was securely supporting your weight, he gradually led you out of the bedroom. The pain wasn't severe, but it was steadily flowing back into prominence, so you knew you needed that first round of medication as quickly as you could get it.
Despite moving at a less-than-swift pace, you had arrived in the living room faster than you thought, filling you with a sense of relief.
The quicker you sat down, the quicker Mark could fetch your medication.
Soon enough, you were comfortably seated on the sofa as Mark rushed to the kitchen, gathering what you needed.
Your eyes scanned the living room casually, a small smile forming on your face when you caught sight of a little table, nearby, that proudly displayed several beautifully framed photographs.
One of the pictures was of Mark and Lila on their wedding day, an image you remembered, for it had been taken well over three years prior.
Seeing that photograph reminded you that you desperately wished to know something about the three years that eluded your conscious mind, for you were sure that there were innumerable joys that you currently failed to remember.
