In the late afternoon, dark clouds brew above Luna's home, a storm was approaching the school. Savage rain pours down heavy, while thunder crackles. Luna was happy to be inside, staying out of the rain. She looked out of the window, face full of boredom. She watches as people from outside hurried to get inside, covering their heads with their hands and people arguing in the rain. A flash of déjà vu went through her head.
"Maybe if you weren't that protective of me then- " Luna shouted.
"What? Me, overprotective?" Lucas shouted back. " You are the one who isn't good at protecting yourself, and to think that you could save a bunch of wild animals, who might attack you." Then he pointed at the scrape on her knee, " Look at those scrapes."
"Oh, ha, ha, ha," Luna said, snidely. She has millions of excuses swirling in her head, but used: " It was just a little scratch." She pauses as pain runs through her knee, "And the forest is burning down. They need to evacuate."
"You can't possibly do that," he said. "The forest is full of animals, you can't save them all."
They felt the raging fire nearby, their argument seems to take forever. Animals rapidly ran out of the forest, as it quickly burns down.
Her flashback went back to reality. Luna fidgets with her hair as she read the book that Mrs. Capri passes out from school earlier. It was a history book that was about all of the greatest heroes that defeated the villains. Including the one about the Darkest Day.
The Darkest Day, read the caption. It was the day when everywhere they went it was darkness, no light at all.
Abnus was the first-ever magic-user ever in the City of Nights. He could use every other power in the other cities.
He's like me, but different, Luna thought as she brushes a corner of the page.
He was known for his powerful powers and enchantments, Luna read on. He used his magic to enchant an underground city, that he claimed to be The Underground City of Night. He made it so if the people need to hide, they could go underground and stay safe. After years of being listening to the queen and obeying her commands, he had enough. So he decided that he was going to seize the throne for himself. But it failed, so he decide to turn the world to darkness.
Eventually, Abnus became too powerful as he taught himself to train. He had stolen the light stone from the City of Lights and enchanted a temple that, 'when you put the light stone here in a slot, you'll release a bright white light which brings everywhere into darkness. As the light stone shreds all its light the world shall become known as darkness instead of bright.' Soon terrible storms arose and destroyed many cities. Abnus went berserk almost destroying all of the city. But when a brave young hero came and defeated Abnus he was buried in his temple.
He was never seen again, until one day over thousands of years from now, a group of scientists came to his temple. They had borrowed the light stone from the City of Light. They were collating data from an ancient wall when one of the scientists mixed a few unknown chemicals together and made everyone in the room fall asleep. That scientist was cosplaying against the other scientist want to see if the Darkest Day was even true. The scientist took the light stone then unleash the bright white light and brought Abnus came back to life. Terrify, all the cities turn into darkness. There was a wise hero that know that even after thousands Abnus's powers will go weak. The hero also defeated Abnos and buried him somewhere unknown. Hoping never to be seen again.
Luna touches the page lightly. She knows that story her mother told her, but she never understands the full story. She still has many questions about the Darkest Day like, Where is the temple? Where had the hero buried Abnos? Who are the heroes? How did they stop Abnos?
Then she was interrupted by when Lucas barge into the room, startling her.
"Did someone ever teach you to knock on the door?" Luna heard herself snap. She clenches her fist. "I could have mistaken you as a burglar."
"Oh sorry, would you like me to go back out and knock on the door then come in?" he asked. "Additional, this is urgent."
"Really?" Luna said, scowling. She notice that he was holding a phone.
"Mother wants to talk to you," He said, giving her the phone.
"Hello?" Luna said, into the phone. She heard some background noises.
"Luna, dear, how have you been?" Her mother asked. "How's school this year?"
"Well first of all, would you stop using the word 'Dear'," Luna said.
"Oh, I thought were going to have a nice mother-daughter-chit-chat first," she said. "Are you getting straight A's in school? Because if you are, " She said with a sweet tune, "I'll let you and Lucas go back here at the City of Lights for a week."
"Why don't you have a mother-son-chit-chat instead?" Luna grumbled. She had been trying to keep a calm tone to keep her feelings hidden. "Stop worried about me and worry about him."
"Don't worry, I just talked to him," She said. "I'll just make an arrangement to fly you and Lucas to the city. Anyways, back to my question. How have you been?"
"Um . . . great," Luna said, hiding her real feelings.
"Good," she remarked. "I'm always happy to see that my children are happy."
"Mother, I'm not a child again," Luna said, putting one of her hands on her head.
"I know, I know," She said. "But-"
Then Luna heard one of her mother's scouts saying something, what they said was a burr. "Sorry I have to go now." She said then hung up.
It was now night time and outside was dark at night. The moon was blocked by the clouds. Thinking hard, she put her hands on her head. Crickets chirp as they flew by, hopping away.
She had something in mind.
