When I was younger I saw my daddy cry and curse at the wind
You remembered being younger and watching how your father had reacted to love how he was left broken.

He broke his own heart and I watched as he tried to reassemble it
You remembered all the times he brought home someone he thought was worth it but they never were and it hurt him everytime

And my momma swore that she would never let herself forget
You remembered the times you saw your mom the way she looked regretful even for a young child you could recognize it.

And that was the day that I promised
I'd never sing of love if it doesn't not exist
You made yourself promise that you wouldn't ever pretend to love someone, you couldn't stand to see what it could do to someone.

But darling, you are
The only exception
You watched as your friend Josh laughed at something you had said causing you to get filled with instant joy. You couldn't explain it; the way he made you feel. Whenever you were around him you couldn't help but be happy and smiley.

The only exception
You and Joshua were hanging out on set talking about the scene you had just done, when Josh went to go look at the script in your hand. His hand grazed yours, causing your face to heat up and a smile to paint it's way on your face.

The only exception
You and Josh were watching a movie in your trailer, you had both started on opposite sides of the couch but by the end his head was on your lap and your fingers danced through his hair. He had fallen asleep halfway through the movie, but you didn't mind. He looked so content and peaceful, you wouldn't mind staying like this for the rest of the day.

The only exception
Joshua and you had planned a day to go to the beach with some friends but the plan got rained on, literally. It frustrated you more than it would've if it was with other people. You and been looking forward to seeing him since it had been planned. But Josh came up with the great idea of coming over to your apartment and bringing movies and snacks. It definitely was better than the beach.

Maybe I know somewhere deep in my soul
That love never lasts
You wanted to hang out with Joshua but at the same time you really didn't want to put your heart on the line. You had planned this for month, you had invited him out on a picnic but now you were second guessing. You were planning on asking him out, but now you weren't really positive he was interested.

And we've got to find other ways to make it alone or keep a straight face
You were in your car a couple of minutes late, parked by the field you planned on meeting Josh. You had everything you needed in the passenger seat but you were so scared of actually making it official. You two flirted all the time but what if he really didn't feel the same. What if you just drove off right now and never spoke to him again you'd be just fine as long as you never saw him again.

And I've always lived like this
keeping a comfortable distance
You've always avoided relationships so why were you getting out of your car now, picnic basket in tow. Why shouldn't you put a bunch of space between you. Why couldn't you have just cancelled past minute, told him you got sick.

And up until now I had sworn to myself
That I am content with loneliness
You thought you were happier when you were by yourself but watching as josh's look of distress changed to a mixed look of relief and happiness when you walked into view. He got up and almost immediately sprinted to you, hugging you once he got close enough. You felt bad as you had taken 30 minutes deciding whether or not you'd actually get out of the car. You muttered an apology, as Josh said it was alright now that you were here.

Because none of it was ever worth the risk
No had ever been worth the risk of heartbreak until now. Joshua was worth it, he made you so happy. You found yourself fumbling out the words as you asked him to be your boyfriend. You watched as a smile grew on his face as he nodded pulling you into him.

But you are the only exception
You smiled at the boy who had fallen asleep in your arms. The boy you were finally able to call yours.

The only exception
You found yourself falling asleep in Josh's arms, you had been rewatching highschool musical and were halfway through the 3rd when you started feeling tired. You found yourself fighting the urge to sleep, Joshua watched as you did. He whispered to you "it's alright to go to sleep bub, I'll be right here when you wake up" right as he said that you gave in snuggling deeper into him.

The only exception
You're mother hardly approved of any of your relationships but this one she seriously hated claiming it wasn't good for you and it wasn't natural. But you couldn't care less, he made you so happy even if your mom didn't like him you did.

The only exception
Your dad on the other hand loved Josh, he was happy you had found someone who treated you as good as Josh did. He was so happy you were happy.

I've got a tight grip on reality
You knew what you had was real and you weren't letting go any time soon. He made you feel so special.

But I can't let go of what's in front of me here
You couldn't stop from thinking about what would happen if he suddenly didn't love you anymore.

I know you're leaving in the morning when you wake up
You knew he had to go to set early but what if none of it seemed real in the morning and you never saw him again, or what if you just thought it all happened and it never truly did.

Leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream
You just hoped he left something like his hoodie, or a note. Just some kind of item that confirmed it all.

You are the only exception
He left a note, where he called you his handsome boyfriend and told you he loved you and that he'd see you on set. No one had ever been kind enough to leave a note.

You are the only exception
Everything about him truly made you so happy. You loved everything about him. You loved how kind he was and always made sure you were okay. You never thought you would be fallen in love but here you were.

You are the only exception
You couldn't even imagine a world where he wasn't in it. You new you'd be okay on your own but you truly didn't want to be. It was worth the risk, he was worth the risk of breaking your own heart.

And I'm on my way to believing
You truly could say you thought love was real, and you were starting to think it'd last as well.

Song: the only exception by Paramore
I kinda think this is cliché and trash but I haven't written in a while so I hope this is alright. Definitely missed writing, also I skipped a few lyrics as they were repetitive.
