"Don't worry, I got it, Luci!"
...
"I'll take care of it, Luci!"
...
"I can do—""No, Y/n. I'll do it", Lucifer said in an unusually harsh tone toward you. The chair creaked as the demon stood up from his desk and followed Barbatos out of the office. The door closed tightly behind the pair, leaving you alone in silence. You sighed, fidgeting with your fingers.
Am I overstepping? Lucifer works so hard all the time, I want to do everything I can to ease the burden on his shoulders. I guess there are still things even I can't help with.
You stepped up to his desk and carefully organized the hodgepodge of papers, letters and other reports written in a language you couldn't read. Lucifer's desk was always a mess no matter how often it was cleaned. Pens and paper were thrown across the hardwood with little care. You pushed the papers aside into one, large pile at the edge of the desk. You refilled the ink wells and dropped the pens into the built-in cupholder. It wasn't much, but you did a lot of little things for Lucifer to help ease your lover's day.
The door suddenly slammed shut and you nearly leapt out of your skin. As you quickly turned to face the door, your hand knocked over an ink well, spilling navy blue ink and scattering glass across the carpeted floor. Your jaw dropped and glanced between Lucifer and the floor, "I'm sorry, Luci! I'll clean it up!". You knelt down and began carefully picking up the shards of glass and placing them in your palm. A pair of shoes appeared on the carpet before you, making you pause and look up at the avatar of pride.
He knelt down to your level and held your wrist, "Don't touch it, Y/n. It can hurt you". Lucifer turned your hand and let the glass fall to the floor. "I'm sorry, I wasn't-". "Come." he interrupted, "Let's get you cleaned up, love", gesturing to the ink stains on your hand. You only nodded, standing and following the demon to the nearest bathroom with his hand holding your wrist firmly.
You watched with guilty eyes as Lucifer worked to rub the deep, blue ink out of your palm. His touch was gentle and attentive, but his eyes were intense and thoughtful. You gazed at his eyes, using your free hand to push back the strands of hair falling over his face. The demon looked at you from the corner of his eye, then looked back at the sink as he turned off the warm water. His thumbs ran over the ink stains on your hand as he spoke, "Don't overwork yourself for me, Y/n. You will end up like me if you keep taking on responsibilities".
You placed your other hand over his own, clasping his hand between yours. Lucifer was met with a smile as he finally looked over at you. "I'm more than happy to help you, Luci. I don't like sitting by and watching you manage everything on your own. You couldn't make me stop helping even if you tried". A smile tugged at his lips at your teasing tone. "Ah, there's never really any arguing with you". Lucifer grabbed a hand towel and dried your hand. The ink stains remain on your skin, but he didn't expect to wash it out. Lucifer wanted a few extra moments of peace with you, even if it was at the bathroom sink.
Lucifer laced his fingers with yours, leading you back into his office. "I'll wrap up my work for tonight. Go to my room and I will meet you there in a short while. No arguing", he said as he placed a hand on your lower back to force you out the door before you could protest.
You sealed your lips tightly, resisting the urge to turn back and help the demon. A sigh escaped your lips as you walked down the winding the halls of the House. Even though it was late in the evening, it was oddly quiet. It was one of those rare occasions where the brothers were occupied without creating chaos.
