It was pretty much dark by now and the full moon was her only light to guide her. After about 20 minutes of walking on a shortcut through the woods, she found herself at the front of the village. She had been there quite a few times before, like when she would sneak out with her brother to just pretend to be normal, middle class humans for once.
Jade walked through the main part of the village, looking at all the shop windows as she made her way down the street. All of a sudden she heard a bunch of horses galloping. She turned around to look for the reason for all this commotion in a calm area. She got on her tiptoes and looked past the crowds of people who also were confused by the sounds. She caught a glimpse of the flag that was waving in the back of the group of horses, it was her kingdom's flag. Jade started getting panicked all over again. She turned and pushed her way through the crowd who were all trying to walk over to see what was happening.
"-and we will not stop until we find them, and bring them back," she heard half of the announcement that was said by one of the men on the horses. She started speed walking towards an alley in between a bakery and an armory shop. Once she made sure that she was fully out of sight of everyone she started running down the alley faster and faster. She knew that she was being looked for but why did the man say they? Suddenly the thought that she was worried about came to her mind. Her brother had come after her.
She went to turn to the right at the end of the alleyway to get away from all the people but she got hit on the back with force, causing her to fall to the ground. Jade immediately reached in her bag and pulled out the small pocket knife that she had temporarily "borrowed" from Gavin. She flipped the switch on the wood handle and the blade shot out from the gap in the middle of the handle. She held it up in front of her, in fight mode, thinking it was one of the castle guards who had come after her. She looked and saw that it was a boy that looked about her age. He had short, curly, black hair and light green eyes. Jade loosened her grip on the knife and lowered it as soon as she saw how frightened he looked.
"I am so sorry I was- I should've paid attention to where I was going," he said in a fast paced voice. "Are you alright," he said as he stood up and dusted his black pants off in a hurry. He held out his hand to help her up off the ground but she ignored it and pushed herself up off of the floor.
"I'm fine," she said in what the boy thought was quite an angry tone. He was running from a guard that had caught him escaping the castle. They had seen him sneak out of the front gates and try to blend in with the crowd as they were flooding into the castle. He ran as fast as he could until he found a spot to hide. They must have followed him here because there they were, looking for him. It sounded like they were looking for someone else too but he wasn't worried about that. He glanced at the girl standing in front of him that he had knocked over. She was beautiful. She had long black hair and the most beautiful blue eyes he had ever seen.
"HEY, DOWN THE BACK," they both turned and saw that one of the guards had found them behind the buildings.
"Run!" the boy yelled quickly as he took off running down the alley way with Jade. She was ahead of him so he followed her, she seemed like she knew where she was going. She ran towards the darkness of the un-lit forest.
