The princess looked out upon the kingdom that her father ruled. Everything was the way he liked it, and there was no changing it. He had gotten everything he had ever wanted ever since he was a child, causing him to always lose his mind whenever something wasn't perfectly as he expected it to be.

Suddenly there was a soft knocking sound at the big white door that made the princess snap out of her thoughts. "Jade, are you almost ready to come down," her mother's calm voice said from the other side of the door.

"Uhm, ya Mom I-um, I'll be right out," Jade said as she stood up in a panic to gather her things before she left. She was expected to be downstairs any minute now. She passed the milky white gown hanging from the top of her bed frame as she made her way to the closet. She frantically stuffed a bag with her pants, shirts, socks, and anything else she would need, and swung it over her head and across her torso. She could hear the busy chatting of all the guests from the ballroom downstairs.

Their kingdom was hosting a wedding that they had been preparing for about a month now. Tons of people from many kingdoms had arrived to see the beautiful wedding for the first and only daughter of King Thomas. Jade loved weddings, she loved love, but the problem with this wedding was that it was her own, and there was no way that she was going to get married to a random prince that was hand-picked by her father.

There was another knock on the door of Jade's bedroom. This time it was her little brother speaking. "Jade, c'mon, you gotta come out here right now or Dad is going to have a fit," she closed up her bag and slipped on her boots that she had bought in secret because she absolutely hated her heels that she was expected to wear every single day. She walked to the door where she could hear somebody pacing on the other side.

"Hey, Gavin... is that you?" she whispered through the locked door. She heard the light footsteps come to a halt.

"Yeah, are you almost ready? people downstairs are starting to get really impatient here Jade," her little brother Gavin told her.

"Is mom still there?" the girl whispered again, hoping that neither of her parents were near.

"No, she went to go calm down dad," he said in an impatient tone. She could hear him start to pace the floor again.

"Okay, Gavin you have to swear to me that you won't tell anybody that you know anything about this," Jade said to him as she walked over to her bed and started pulling off her sheets and tying them together as tight as she could manage. "I will be gone for a while, but I will make sure to let you know that I'm alright once in a while. Just go to our spot," she told him as she threw the long line of tied bed sheets out the window. Gavin started to panic, he felt his chest tighten up as he processed what his older sister had just told him.

"Where are you - how - what am I supposed to d-" his pacing continued to get faster and faster as he proceeded to think of what was happening. He knew that his sister didn't want to get married but he didn't think she would go through all this trouble to avoid it. She interrupted him mid-thought. She was only 16 years old, how could she possibly figure out a way to survive on her own after being raised by royals all her life.

"I love you Gavin, you'll be okay, I'll see you again sometime," she said as she sat at the edge of her open window, looking at the view of the sunset for one last time before she left. Jade had always loved to sit on her window sill and watch as the sun faded down below the mountains in the distance. She could feel herself tearing up, she loved her younger brother with all her heart and didn't want to hurt him. She knew this would make him so upset and she knew that he would do anything to try to find her if she hadn't told him a spot to meet her at. This way she hoped he would be less frantic about it. She heard his voice mumble something before she secured her bag and slipped out of the window, climbing down the line of sheets.
