I pushed the record button and went to sit down on the chair facing the camera. I knew the words that I need to say but the only thing I could think of was that I hoped he could forgive me. I hoped that he would understand and not hate me forever. I just wanted him to be happy.
I spoke in Korean "Hello everyone. I am recording this video today to apologize to you all and to clear up any understandings before you heard false things from the media. My name is Sariah Pierce, but my pen name is K.D.L. I am the writer of "Love in a piece of cake" and several others that you all are aware of. I am also the daughter of Kevin Pierce, a fact that I chose not to disclose for personal reasons. As you all know, my alias K.D.L has always been in the shadows, never showing her face and I chose to do that for several reasons. I do not like the limelight; I never wanted to have fame. I am a simple girl who loves to watch shows in my pajamas with my cat. I came to Seoul under the guise of crew assistant because I have always wanted to see my shows come to life in real time but never had the courage. Of course, I love everything about your culture here in Korea so being able to come and experience this city was a dream come true. I am truly sorry for any hurt I have caused to those whom I now consider some of my closest friends. It was never my intention to hurt you. You have all been such an inspiration to me. I will miss you."
I paused, gathering the courage to talk to him. I looked down and upon looking up back at the camera, I made sure to show the emotions that I was feeling with my eyes. The sorrow, regret, agony, and most important...love.
"To the person who has become the most important to me. I cannot express the regret over the fact that I have hurt you. I was not honest. I lied when you trusted me the most. I can only assure you that while I did not tell you about one side of my life, I was who I truly am with you and all of my feelings were never a lie. I may not have told you my other name, but I was always Sari with you. I was ME! Please forgive me, please do not let this ruin the times we had that were pure. I'm sorry and I will miss you for the rest of my life. I hope you can live the rest of your life the way you want to and not what others expect of you. Goodbye. I love you."
I stood quickly and turned the camera off, letting the tears stream down my face. A knock sounded at my front door. Was it him? Did he come to say goodbye? I rushed to the door, my heart beating out of my chest; disappointment and depression seeping through my skin when I saw it was just the security my father hired.
"We are ready to depart for the airport, Miss Pierce." The burly man said.
"Thank you, I will be out momentarily."
I quickly sent the video to the studio with instructions to play it for everyone; grabbed my luggage, took one last long look at the home that had become so important to me and I finally turned and walked out the door. My life was going to be so much different now; I was not ready.
As I walked to the terminal, I scanned past my many bodyguards, looking for signs of him. He did not come. He was lost to me forever. I was foolish to think he would come. I guess I played this out to be like a Korean drama. He would come running toward me in the terminal, declaring his love for me, demanding me to stay; we would embrace and live happily ever after.
That's why I was foolish. That's why I liked living in the world of my stories; they never disappointed you. They always had a happy ending.
My life was not a Korean Drama!
~11 months earlier~
"That. Was. Amazing!" I clapped, tears streaming down my face as I watched the credits and ending song play across my tv screen. I just finished a new Korean drama that had really good reviews and they weren't lying! One of the best. The ending episode had everything I wanted in a drama. The main couple ended up together after a series of obstacles, they kissed, got married, and even had the cutest baby in the world. An altogether good drama.
