Moments after the hunter had produced the magical barrier which he took cover behind during the moment that I had engaged him outside of the establishment, after which I had produced a large sphere of energy which had the power of a mini nuclear strike which was detonated into a small condensed radius.

Basically what I mean is it was a really big explosion. That wouldn’t have bothered me one bit because it only detonates in small area all the while maintaining its condensed amounts of power. But the moment when the hunter slash pirate slash idiot used that basic spell, I panicked a little. The main reason behind that is because when he went ahead and did so he could have potentially reflected about half of the power that was directed at him, back at me. Some kind of principle is at work here. I think that just like you would be able to block swords and bullets using a sturdy metal shield but is vulnerable to lightning and fire magic, would work the same way as being able to block magic blast and energy projectiles using a magic shield, but it would be vulnerable to the effects of direct melee or physical attacks.

There are some variations and exceptions to that rule depending on what kind of shield you are using, as well as what the characteristics and properties of that shield are. A good example was that time when I blasted that paladin back at the top of mount Neverspring, when he managed to dissipate my fireball with his massive axe (which I will consider as a shield for now, even though technically he parried my attack) because the axe itself was blessed and so was effective even against magic attacks. And the other example can be when the Rifleman took the long shot with his gun and I managed to completely block it with a high level barrier, and thus can be used to block physical attacks more efficiently.

And now thanks to that hunter, he managed to defend himself and rebounded some of the energy back at me, and since I wasn’t prepared that time I couldn’t block it. Who would have thought that a hunter taking a freelance job under a holy order of knights that use blessed equipment and everything, to know how to use a spell that needs dark energy, not me apparently.

Now that I’m done explaining all of the technicalities and whatnot, where was I?

Oh, I remember now. I exploded.

The massive blast of energy wasn’t enough to cause significant destruction to the surrounding environment but it was able to do a significant amount to any living thing in the vicinity of the detonation. As I knew what was about to happen then, I just closed my eyes seeing that I wouldn’t be able to do anything else as the shockwave reached me, I got blasted back and fell unconscious.

I felt my consciousness returning to me as I slowly opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was an unfamiliar ceiling, which obviously meant that I was inside right now, and that also means that someone brought me inside. I was lying down in a really comfy bed right now, like really comfy. I tried to take in the surrounding area in hopes of figuring out where I was but when I tried to sit up I felt an absurd amount of pain in my back and my chest, and also a little bit in my left arm and both of my legs. This was telling me that I sustained a very significant amount of damage from the spell. I closed my eyes for a bit and sighed. Where am I? Did I get captured? If I did who knows what might happen to me now. I will probably end up dead, or worse they’ll torture me and take me apart bit by bit while I’m still alive just to see how I “work”. I cringed at that disturbing thought.

As I was resting and trying to compose my thoughts, I had a weird feeling that someone was here. I opened my eyes only to find myself face to face with a pair of pink eyes looking down straight at me just a few inches from my face. I got startled by this and jumped up in my bed screaming. Meanwhile I must have surprised the girl with my sudden reaction and she fell backwards landing on the floor, all the while screaming.
