Chapter Two
Aang is still sleeping on the bed beside me, snoring away. But I can not seem to go back to sleep. I climb out of bed and get dressed, putting on a light blue dress with white bunny fur linings. I braid my hair and go down to the kitchen, where I see General Iroh making some tea.
“Good morning, Katara.” Iroh says.
“Good morning.” I say.
“Would you care for some tea?”
“Yes please.”
Iroh pours me some tea and I take it. Its still warm, and steam curls off of it slowly, floating upwards to the ceiling then vanishing.
“Thank you, the tea was delicious. But Iroh, I thought you were in Ba Sing Se, working in your tea shop.”
“Oh, yes, I still do that, but I decided I wanted to help my nephew here, so he doesn’t do anything uncalled for.”
“I see.” I walk over to the stove and start to make breakfast for myself. “Would you care for some omelette?” I ask Iroh.
“No thank you. I have already had breakfast” He answers and I nod, going back to stirring the eggs.
Once it is finished I sit down, Iroh gone from his spot. I shrug it off and eat my breakfast.
The day passes quickly, and I finish my chores early. I decide to practice my waterbending. I go to the driest area I can think of and concentrate on bending the water. I was hoping for a bit of water, but suddenly a giant wave, bigger than I have ever bended, surrounds me. I smile, and bend the water into a ball around me, me in the middle, and turn it into ice. I am in the middle of it all, and, getting energy in a few breaths, I take all that ice, churn it around, and turn it into steam. The steam rises upwards, but I quickly harness it and turn it back into water, this time like rain, but before it can hit the ground I make an ice sculpture out of it, and drop it gently on the ground. The ice sculpture is one of Sokka, Zuko, Toph, Aang and me. I smile. The good old days.
I look up towards the sky, and I see that the sun has begun to set. Now is the time. My stomach fills with butterflies, as I go and search for Aang. When I find him, he is smiling ear to ear, walking out of the grand room, where the Zuko holds the meetings. I almost feel sorry about my decision, but I can not stand this anymore.
“Hey Katara” Aang says.
“Hello Aang. Could I talk to you? Privately?” I ask him.
“Uh, sure.”
“Come.” I say as I start to walk out the hallway.
Outside, the sun has already set, and stars twinkle in the sky. It is winter, after all, and the days are shorter than usual.
“So, Aang.”
“Yupp?” Aang asks cheerfully, turning towards me.
“Remember a few months ago, when you kissed me and I said I was confused? About my feelings?”
“Ya...” Aang answered, confused about what I was trying to say.
“Well, yesterday I was thinking. And I have sorted out my feelings...”
I think Aang begins to get what I am hinting at.
“So, lets just say... I don’t exactly like you.”
“What???”
“You are more of a little brother to me, Aang. Please understand. It was hard for me to tell you this, please, don’t make it any harder.”
