I woke up fluttering my eyes with a pounding headache and a faint smell of old pizza, too much Red Bull, and.. is that... "EWWWW!" I shouted now fully up. I then realized I was in my 13 year old brothers room. We both fell asleep while gaming but he positioned his feet in my face. "Do you ever even wash your socks?" I muttered while getting up, poking my foot with a salt chip.

"Of course not, these are my lucky socks Lina. To wear, and to-" "OKAYYY, that's enough!" I say throwing a pillow in his face. To say we just moved in a week ago he sure knows how to decorate a room. I go back to my room and admire it for a few seconds.

I find it a little hard getting used to this lavish life out of the blue. That's probably why I always find myself still sleeping in my brothers room. No matter what though I'm so thankful for my mom. I drop dead on my bed and suddenly fall back to sleep.

"Alina wake up dear, it's 12:07 and you haven't gotten up once" my mom says while shaking me gently. "What happened to you 'owning up for yourself  as a woman of color and taking on the world!'" My mom said. "That can still be an option as long as I get my beauty sleep." I moan stuffing the pillow over my face. "Do you remember Skarlett and Sebastian?" my mom says. That immediately gets my notice. "Yeah.. why?" I say sitting up. " Well believe it or not they live right down the street from us, and they invited us for dinner!" my mom exhilarated.

"What!" Kenny screamed barging in my room. "Oh my gosh no way!!" I responded to my mom excitedly. "Yeah, it starts at 6 so please *she sniffs Kenny* shower." She said. "But mom, why out of such short notice? I mean didn't we plan to go shopping or whatever?" Says Kenny. "Yes.. until you complained about that too. Besides I realized you both need human interaction after you went virtual because of.. well never mind." She stopped.

"Because dad died." I finished. No one spoke for a few moments. "Yes, because he passed." Mom says. "But hey, if you guys really don't want to come no one is forcing you. I'll just tell Erika that a business emergency came up." She says while leaving the room.

My brother left the room also. I sat there for a few minutes but got up to go to my vanity to brush my hair. I still remember that night as if it was yesterday when mom called from the hospital saying that dad was gone. He's not my biological father, but he was the best father I could ever ask for. My real dad ran off to the hills with his new family long ago. I realized that thinking about them both was doing more harm then good so I decide to hop in the shower.

I hop out of the shower, finish in my bathroom, and ponder in front of my vanity on how I should style my hair for the dinner. I finally agree on straightening it. I then put on a little bit of make-up for the day. I go over to my walk in closet, and here's the hardest part.. choose an outfit! In my opinion my fashion sense is very casual, but I stick with it since I get compliments on it.
