Dolores x (gender neutral) Reader

You had met her so long ago, you had been the best of friends since the beginning. You were there for her when she received her gift, and she locked eyes with you. Out of all the things for her to look at in that moment, she looked at you. You gave her one of those smiles that children give that are very awkward looking but that are full of emotion. It was very obvious that she was nervous as she walked down that isle. You were forever grateful for that moment.
The both of you started a tradition type of thing where, you would meet up and she would tell you all about the interesting things that she heard about that day. You both knew everything about everyone.

Dolores was obsessed with y/n, one look from them and her breathe was stolen. Dolores was always trying to find ways to get y/n to realize what she felt for them without directly telling them. She would spend all day picking the most perfect flowers, she would bring them to places that would be considered romantic dates, she would compliment you randomly, etc. But no matter what she did, they would brush it off as if it was just a normal thing for a friend to do.
Dolores was terrified of confronting them like a normal person but was sick of trying to get them to pick up what she was putting down. But she continued... for years.

Everyone loved you. You were the towns dream, you had looks that could kill, a kind spirit, and you we're flirtatious.

Dolores obviously knew of this and it would make her blood boil every time she heard someone talk about you like she thought about you. Whenever she would hear someone talk about possibly confessing to you, she would drop everything and run to do what ever she could to get them to not do it, and she succeeded every time.

You had always admired Dolores with her beautiful looks and her cute personality. But to you, that was the extent of it, or rather that was what you chose to believe. You thought that she was far too out of your league so you tried to not let the feelings fester by trying to find someone else to distract yourself with. But to you, no matter how much you flirted, no one seemed to be interested.

Time Skip

Casita had just fallen, Mirabel had run away,  and Dolores lost her gift. You knew that she would need you now more than ever. You went with her to find Mirabel and she kept on trying to listen for something but would end up disappointed when all she heard was your feet rustling through the bushes. It ate you up inside to see her like this.
"Let's find a nice spot to sit for a bit" you said.
"But we have to look for Mirabel?" she replied
You gave her a look that meant it wasn't up for negotiation and said "We can spare a moment and you deserve a break"
You led her to a secluded and shaded spot under the trees and sat down.
You just looked her in her eyes for a bit and told her "I hope you know that every thing is going to be okay I am going to be here with you for all of it."
She started to tear up and just leaped into your arms. You blushed a little bit at the sudden contact but hugged her back none the less.
That was when she looked up at you while still holding her arms around your waist and you looked back down at her and gulped nervously. She got up and cleared her throat
"I have to tell you something..." She said.
You both sort of just stood their, looking away from each other because of the blush creeping on your faces.
The bell rang...
"That must be for Mirabel!" you exclaimed.
You both ran down the hill in anticipation.

Another Time Skip

The whole town was working to help rebuild Casita. You had gone down back into the town to collect some more supplies and that was when someone pulled you aside. You couldn't quite place them but could tell that they mean no harm so you asked them "Uhm, what's going on?"
"I have to tell you about Dolores and what she's been doing to you." the stranger said. You became skeptical considering that you weren't entirely sure who this was and it seemed like they about to tell you something terrible about Dolores.
"She's the reason that you're forbidden." the person said.
"....what?" you said after just standing there like an idiot. You had no clue what this person meant and you even almost giggled at the word, forbidden.
"Y/n, almost everyone in this town has wanted to ask you out and every time, Dolores gets in the way of them. Saying stuff like 'You're off limits'" they exclaimed.
You just started bursting out laughing and apologized several times. This sounded absolutely ridiculous to you and you were about to walk away when they grabbed you by the wrist.
"You have to believe me, ask her yourself, she can't lie forever." they said urgently.
"You know what, I will ask her" you said in a pissed off tone this time.

Dolores Point of View

I was working with my cousins when I saw y/n walking back up the hill, with no supplies. They looked a bit aggravated. They came straight up to me and directly asked "Dolores, have you been shooing away people who have wanted to ask me out?". I just stood there like a fool. They gestured at me to give them an answer. I couldn't force any words out of my mouth, I was stuck. My brain desperately begged for me to say literally anything but my mouth just hung open as if words were going to come out.
The look on their face faded to a more relaxed but shocked look. After that, I saw them look at me with complete disgust and my heart shattered. I could feel my eyes start to fill with tears and everything became blurry because of my tears. They had walked away and I just stood there looking down at my hands. I felt paralyzed. I couldn't even begin to believe what had just happened.

You had gone back into the town to hide from Dolores. "How could she? Why? What would she care about? Could she like me? No. She's a Madrigal, of course she doesn't like me. But then why?" your head was raging with these thoughts and you couldn't tell if you were mad and everything just seemed to be messed up.
You had gone back to that spot under the trees to collect these thoughts. But she found you.
"Dolores please, I don't know if I want you here." you said.
"Y/n please just let me say this and it may straighten your thoughts. Please." she said.
"....fine" you hesitated.

Dolores Point of View

I wasn't actually expecting them to allow me to say anything. I had to regroup and take a breath because it just hit me that I was about to confront my biggest fear of all in this moment and I hadn't even thought about what I would say at all. But I began, without even thinking.
"Y/n, you have every right to be furious with me, I get what I did was wrong and I just have to apologize. I would have never done something like it if you weren't so... so damn perfect. You have made me feel safe and comfortable since that moment I looked in your eyes when I walked down that isle. I've been trying to draw your attention to my feelings since we were 15 but you've always just shut it down. I did what I did out of jealousy, I didn't want you to focus your attention on anyone but me and it was selfish and I just, am sorry... you can go if you want, I've talked long enough." I said while looking down.
They just seemed shocked once again. But then they walked up to me and threw their arms around me and hugged me. My cheeks felt so hot I thought I was going to pass out. They nuzzled their face into my neck.

Second Person

You started to whisper "I always thought you were out of my league, I tried to flirt with others to distract myself from you but apparently, no one was interested... I want you Dolores."

Dolores looked at you and then suddenly her lips landed on yours. Your eyes shot open but you quickly kissed her back, pulling her closer to you.

It was the beginning of something that seemed so corny and stereotypical, but would last.

Also I might make edits to this later because I haven't read over it again but I'm also too tired to do that right now 👍
