Gotan has an obsession for training and fighting. His moto is that even little kids can surpass legendary fighters if they work hard enough.
Every afternoon he would train either with his best friend trunks either with his father goku or maybe with his big brother gohan. One day at training with goku he asked him to teach him to transform to the legendary super saiyan. He said that he wanted to be a warrior of legend like his father and brother.
Goku then told him that the requirements to awaken that hidden skill is fury.
Knowing that his son doesn't accept defeat and humiliation he thought that if they sparred in full power he would get angry enough so he suggested it to gotan

G:Alright gotan, to end your today's training we are going to spar in Full Power!
g:b-but how am I supposed to go up against you?
You can go super saiyan and all I have is my base form!
G:Try your best son
After all you are a sayian aren't you?
- 10 minutes later gotan is fallen on the ground and filled by rage and humiliation -
g:no!

Then goku saw his son being surrounded by a golden aura
He didn't want gotan to cause any trouble so he gave him a hard punch in the stomach
This caused his form to fade away
Then he told him:Remember this feeling son, and let it activate you.
