The moon was shining brighter than it had done any of the nights. He looked at her in the water. The way she was swimming, with her long hair after her, it was like watching princess he thought. She looked over at him and smiled right before diving down into the water. His only thought was to join her, and so he did.
He took off his hoodie, his t-shirt underneath the hoodie, his shoes, socks and lastly his pants. When the girl's head showed up in the water, she saw that he was on his way, but she pretended that she didn't see him. His feet touched the water. It was cold but thrilling in a way. He walked longer and longer out, until it was deep enough for him to dive in.
She was floating in the water, and he swam over to her and held her head. She giggled and put her arms around his neck. They were not able to stand on the ground since they were too far out, but the only thing he could think about was to take her legs around his waist and hold her tight. Her smile had never been happier, and he knew how hard life had been on her, so when she was showing those white beautiful teeth, he knew she was happy and comfortable. She looked into his ocean blue eyes and saw her whole future. She could picture them having their own apartment, kids and so on. It all seemed perfect. Even though they had only met each other this summer, they had already opened up to one another because they had that once in a lifetime feeling. They swam around there for like, half an hour, when the girl got cold and said they should go up to their blankets again.
They took a towel each and got dry. The boy could see that the girl was shaking, so he tapped her shoulder and gave her his hoodie. She blushed, took the hoodie and turned away to put it on, and to hide her face from him. She turned around and looked at him, ''thanks.'' She said and sat down. He sat down beside her and said, ''you know, you don't have to sit that far away from me. Get your butt over here so I can warm you.'' Her heart was pounding fast, but in a good way. She got closer to him and put her head on his thigh. His hand slipped down to her hip and landed on her stomach. He squished it a little and felt her relaxing.
''So, what's your plan with life?'' she asked him. He blew air out of his mouth and after took a deep breath, ''to be honest, I don't have one. I want life to be an adventure and not something you have to plan. You always make a list of things to get done in one week, you plan almost everything and have a tight schedule, but could you imagine living like that for the rest of your life? No way I'm doing that. I'll see what god have coming my way.''
That's when she realized she had planned everything in her whole life right up until this summer. When she met him, things changed, ''I can imagine living that way. I've lived like that my whole life because of my dad, he literally had me plan my whole education path when I was 7 years old. I just wanted to play with dolls when I was 7, not thinking about education and having this stressful cloud over my head.'' He looked down at her, she looked up at him. ''I know, but it's never too late to start over. You know that right?'' She nodded and looked at the moon sparkling in the ocean water. He put his other hand on her cheek and turned her head back where it was before. ''I won't let you go that easy,'' He kissed her on her forehead, ''What are you going to do to change it?''
She laid down, as did he and she put her head on his chest. She could hear his calm hear beat. Boom...boom...boom, ''I'm not sure to be honest. Maybe try new things that I've never tried before? Let new people in my life, like I did with you, because that for sure was a game changer.''
He laughed, ''yeah, that's kind of the beauty of living life.'' They laid there the whole night, just watching the stars. She closed her eyes, and the sounds of the wind in the grass and the waves in the ocean were getting further and further away. He saw she had fallen asleep, so he made sure she would stay warm all night, by snugging her close to him. He closed his eyes too and drifted off into dream land.
The sun woke him up. He was about to look at her, but she wasn't there. There was only a note, and it said:
''You're probably wondering why I'm not next to you right now. Well, my dad and I must travel home, back to our own country before school starting. I never ever thought I would get my summer of love, but I did. You made it truly amazing. But time wasn't in our favor, on the other hand if we're meant to be together, and if it's in the cards of our god above, don't give up on us. I know I won't.''
And that's how love goes sometimes. From strangers, to friends, to lovers and back to strangers again. But you want to know the worst part? It can happen all over again.
