Chapter 7.5: WacDonald's™

As Yukino and I finished our chatting and she had left, Hachiman had exited the building just a few seconds later. 

Y/N: "Yo." 

Hachiman: "You waited?" 

"Of course." 

"I wouldn't have done the same for you, just so you know." 

"Thanks for telling me... Anyway, what held you up in there for so long?" 

"Oh yeah, about that, tell the other two girls to meet at WacDonald's™ at 5:00 am." 

"For what?" 

Timeskip to a new year that will probably be worse

We were in the WacDonald's™  at 5:00 am, waiting for Kawasaki to arrive. Hachiman, Yukino, Yuigahama, Hachiman's sister, Taishi, and I were all sitting at the table. Once Kawasaki had entered the building, I got up from my chair so that she could sit in it instead and stood off to the side, this was none of my business anyway. I never liked to get into other people's family drama and stuff, it all just seemed like a pain to listen to anyway, no matter how traumatizing it is. As she walked towards us, she noticed Taishi sitting in one of the chairs, across the table. 

Kawasaki: "Taishi, what are you doing here at this hour?" 

Taishi: "I should be asking you that. What have you been doing until this hour?" 

"It's none of your business." 

Hachiman: "Kawasaki, let me guess why you were working and why you needed the money." 

Kawasaki closed her mouth to listen. 

Hachiman: "Taishi, has anything changed since you started your third year of middle school?" 

Taishi: "I started going to cram school." 

Yuigahama: "I get it... So to pay her brother's tuition..." 

Hachiman: "Wrong." 

"Eh?" 

"When he started attending cram school in April, the Kawasaki family had already reached a solution regarding his tuition." 

Yukino: "That's true. He's not the only one that has to pay tuition."

Hachiman: "We go to a college prep school, so a lot of students start thinking about college by the second year. That's when they start giving serious thought to summer courses." 

Taishi was shocked. In a good way of course, I think. The only reason she was doing it was for her tuition so, that's a good thing, however he's right to be concerned because she is staying up later than she should. All for college, huh. I mean, I guess I'm just a dumbass then, maybe I should start thinking about college, that's the one reason my parents put me in this school in the first place, so...

Taishi: "Nee-chan..." 

Kawasaki sighed.

Kawasaki: "I told you, you didn't need to know. I plan to go to college, and I don't want to burden you and our parents with that." 

That's pretty considerate of her, mostly because she was nothing like that back when I knew her. But, I guess it was all about her family in both cases. 

A/N: Idk if I said this earlier, but Hachiman's sister's name is Hikigaya Komachi. 

Komachi: "Um, can I say something?" 

She had her hand raised as if she was in school. Her voice was high-pitched and kind of sounded like Yuigahama. We all turned our heads toward her.

Komachi: "Yeah, our parents work, too. When I was little, I hated coming home and finding nobody there, so I ran away. And it was Onii-chan (Hachiman), not my parents, who came after me. He's been getting home before I do ever since. I'm grateful to him for that." 

Yukino: "Doesn't Hikigaya-kun just go home early because he has no friends?" 

Hachiman: "Hey, how did you know?!" 

Y/N: "OK I SEE HOW IT IS" 

Komachi: "Oh, no, I totally realize that, but I think my explanation is worth more points." 

Bruh, I literally don't exist to these people.

Kawasaki: "So what are you trying to say?" 

Komachi: "Just like you don't want to be a burden to your family, Taishi-kun doesn't want to be a burden to you. It'd make me happy as a fellow younger sibling if you'd understand that." 

Holy fuck, Hachiman and I were all looking away from everybody in a kind of vibe way. That was nice as hell. I don't think Yukino quite understood, however. 

Taishi: "Well, that's pretty much it." He said to Kawasaki.

Kawasaki sighed once more, in a much calmer way than last time. 

Hachiman: "Hey, Kawasaki... Have you heard of scholarships?"

Timeskip to the outside of WacDonald's™

Kawasaki and Taishi had been walking away for a while now. Hachiman and Yuigahama were smiling as Kawasaki and Taishi were walking away. Everyone was silent until Yukino spoke. 

Yukino: "Is that what it's like to have siblings?" 

Y/N: "Depends on the sibling. You could also call them the closest stranger in your life." 

Yukino: "Yes. . . I understand that very well." 

Oh fuck, I think I triggered something. Yukino didn't seem fazed at saying this, but it was clear she was having family problems as well. Looks like another thing has been added to my to-do list. 

A/N: This would be the part where I make some backstory for Y/N or smth. In the anime, it talks about Hachiman and why Yuigahama was being nice to him, ofc I'm not writing all of that so, I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about, you most likely have already seen the anime so, I'll just leave it at that.
