Heavy Trigger Warnings: Murder/Death, Blood

Phoenix shut his eyes again, trying to let himself fall asleep, but It seemed almost pointless. opening his eyes, he glanced over at the clock. It was 3:29 am and he still couldn't sleep. with a jolt of frustration, he shoved a pillow over his head. He just wanted to sleeeeeeep!

His brain was still in a jumble of thoughts when he heard something from the room next door. It was a noise that send chills down his spine.

a scream. It was faint and muffled, and only reached his ears for a brief moment before being cut off, but it was there. At first, he thought it may have just been his imagination, however it felt too real for that. He had definitely heard something. Sudden panic flurried through him, and his head bolted up from his pillow. He stared at the door, afraid of what he had just heard. His breath became more shaky

oh gosh, why am I so nervous?? I seriously need to calm down... It's probably just nothing. Maybe Sophie thought she saw something and screamed... little kids tend to imagine things.. that's probably all it is, right? should I go check?

But there was another feeling lingering in his gut. The feeling that something far more sinister had happened. If it really was just Sophie being a little startled by something, then why was her scream so muffled? and why did it get cut off?

Eventually Phoenix couldn't take it anymore. He threw his blankets to the floor, got up from his bed and ran down the hallway towards Sophie's room in the cold unwelcoming dark of the night. When he got to the door, he placed his hand on the doorknob. His hands were shaking uncontrollably. He felt droplets of sweat roll down the back of his neck. Now was not the time for panicking, but he couldn't help it. He just knew that when he opened the door he would be greeted by something horrifying- who knew what could be there?

shakily, he opened the door. Although it was only a few seconds, it felt like minutes before the door fully opened and Phoenix could see inside. When he glanced down at the floor, he gasped with shock and horror. He felt sick with fear. Even in the dark, he could make out the limp shape of the body on the floor, and the sticky red pool of blood like a shadow across the floor. a knife jutted out from her chest, a sickening pale glow from the moon bathing the metal surface just before it touched her heart.

Sophie was dead.

Phoenix felt like he was gonna be sick. He was frozen in place. He wasn't sure whether to scream or run or cry or what to do. Emotions swirled up in his chest, but he couldn't identify any of them. His mind was blank yet thundering and screaming at him at the same time.

Then another blood curdling scream cut through the dead silence of the night.

Instantly, Phoenix ran to his parent's room. Again, he didn't want to open the door, but he knew he had too. When he did, he felt sick, just as he had when he had peered into Sophie's room that night. more blood. more bodies. more death.

Phoenix tried to control his breathing, but he could only manage quick gasps of air. He stumbled forwards, only catching himself on the wall in front of him. d- dead. everyone was dead.

They were all dead.

Who had done this?

why had they done this?

He couldn't think clearly anymore.

Wait, was the murderer still in the house?

who would they go for next? Phoenix or-

He felt a hand on his shoulder, and heard the sound of ragged breathing. Phoenix's blood ran cold as he turned around, and was met with two icy blue eyes, glazed with hatred and jealousy. He- he couldn't believe who he was staring at. His breath caught in his throat. He couldn't speak.

It was his brother, Kyo

A voice as cold as death reached his ears. "Time to die, brother." Kyo held up a knife, and aimed it right towards Phoenix's throat.

In a panic, Phoenix attempted to run away. He ducked past his brother and fled for the stairs. He just barely made it past, but still wasn't quite quick enough. Kyo swung the knife, and it slashed through the flesh of his arm. Phoenix screamed as a jolt of pain flared through his arm, and for a second, his vision went red. It was the worst pain he had ever felt in his life. He could feel the blood and the dizziness in his head but he didn't care. He nearly leapt down the fleet of stairs, and quickly opened the door outside. It was pitch black and he still had his night clothes on, but he didn't care.

He sprinted out into the night, kicking the door behind him closed, and running as fast as he could, twisting and turning though the hollow silent trees in the thick forest at night. His arm hurt so much that he could hardely think. Luckily, he realized, he had managed to outrun Kyo. He stopped running, and fell into tree. He leaned on the thick trunk trying to steady himself.

The breath in his lungs hurt.

The world seemed to spin.

everything was too dark.

His legs felt like jelly.

He couldn't handle it anymore. He gave in to the darkness, let himself fall to the ground, his arm throbbing in pain. He couldn't lift his head up. He couldn't move. All he could do was let himself fall into unconsciousness.

Ending note: uhhh that got dark pretty fast. Don't worry, Phoenix will be ok. I just like making my characters suffer :) I might make a part two to this eventually.
