I wake up feeling a lot better. Tadashi is still asleep, so I crawl out of bed quietly and make my way to the window on Hiro's side of the room. To my surprise, Hiro's already there, gazing out into the early morning sky.
I sneak up on him quietly, then grab his shoulders. He shrieks and covers his eyes.
"What, Hiro? You don't want to look at me?" I tease him.
"No. But I'm not scared, you're just ugly!" He yells at me.
"Hiro," I hear Tadashi say from the other room, apparently aroused by the noise. "I'm going to tell Aunt Cass you said that."
"No! You can't! It's not my fault, Ivi snuck up on me! I didn't do anything wrong!" Hiro screams at him.
"Hiro, it's okay to feel scared. You don't need to hide it." Tadashi says. "Now be quiet so I can go back to sleep."
"No!" Hiro screams. "I wasn't scared! And I'm not gonna be quiet! You don't deserve to go to sleep!"
Hiro starts screaming as loud as he can to keep Tadashi awake. I try not to laugh: me and Davin were just like this when we were younger.
"It isn't funny Ivi." Tadashi says tiredly.
I stop trying to contain my laughter and just let it out, rocking back and forth with the hysterical gaiety that comes of not getting enough sleep, but not being tired, exactly, either.
"Ivi, even if Hiro stopped screaming, I wouldn't be able to sleep with you laughing that loud either." Tadashi says, irritated.
I roll onto the floor and rock even harder while Hiro screams and Tadashi makes an annoyed comment every once in a while until the door is flung open and I look up to see Aunt Cass standing in the doorway in her pajamas and slippers and an angry look on her face. Hiro stops screaming abruptly, and I stop laughing, or at least try.
"You guys should be in bed, fast asleep!" Aunt Cass says furiously. "You should not be screaming!"
"But you're screaming right now." Hiro protests weakly.
"Hiro Hamada, who am I waking up right now? Nobody! You can't start scream in the middle of the night when people should be asleep!"
"Tadashi started it!" Hiro says.
"Tadashi," Aunt Cass says threateningly.
"I told him to be quiet so I could go to sleep and he started screaming! How is this my fault?"
Aunt Cass sighs, "Hiro, come downstairs and sleep with me, alright? Tadashi and Ivrian, go to bed, I don't want to hear anymore noise from up here."
"Fine," says Hiro and follows her out.
I climb back onto my air mattress and tuck myself under the covers.
"Tadashi, you wanna go to bed now?"
"Yes! Stop talking."
"Okay," I say.
"That was pretty crazy, huh?"I remark after a while.
"Yeah, stop talking now."
"Okay. Do you want to talk about the sky? I love the sky!" I say, trying to irk him. "And the park! I love the park! And trees! I love trees--"
"Shut! Up!" Tadashi yells.
"I said quiet!" Aunt Cass calls from downstairs.
"Funny! That's exactly what Tadashi was saying!" I call back.
"Do I need to come up there again?" She says.
"Nope! We're good!" I say cheerily.
"Then go to bed!" She yells.
"As you wish, your majesty." I say, too quiet for Aunt Cass to hear.
I hear Tadashi quietly laughing as I settle down.
"Tadashi!" I whisper-yell at him. "She said go to bed!"
"Shut up," He whispers back between sniggers.
