I woke up feeling groggy. The night before really took its toll on me.
I looked down and found Kiari snuggled up to my side. I had and arm wrapped around her. She was sleeping peacefully. I didn't really want to wake her up but I had to.
I nudged her slightly. She groaned in response. Her face scrunching up in disgust.
"Five more minutes.." She mumbled.
I rolled my eyes. I sat up and shook her some more until she finally got up. She didn't look too happy with me.
There was a knock at my door and I heard my dad yell through it.
"Breakfast!!" He screamed. We got up and went to the dining room.
"Good morning children! It's good to see you Kiari!" My mother exclaimed when she saw us. I sat down next to Emmi who smiled up at me. She was such a cute little girl. But she could be the most annoying as well. She held a small stuffed animal in her lap.
Kiari sat in between Kellin and I. The food was put on the table and we gladly ate what we could.
When we were finished we decided to go outside for a walk. The sky was a bright blue and there was barely a cloud in the sky. As we passed Kiari's house we could see her parents dancing in the window. They seemed happy and were laughing like crazy.
Kiari laughed at the sight.
"Oh my gosh. Just look at them!" She paused for a moment and sighed, "I wish I could be in a relationship like my parents. They seem so happy and in love."
I thought to myself for a few moments.
"Kiari, not everything is about being in a relationship. You can be happy with just your friends. Like me," I said as I put an arm around her. She looked down at the ground and her cheeks tinged pink.
"Y-yeah. Friends," she said before continuing on walking down the road. What was that about?
We tried to make small talk but she didn't seem up to talk at all.
"I think we should get a pregnancy test," I suggested, "Just to make sure you're not pregnant."
I looked at her and she seemed very sad. Her eyes glistened with tears that she was trying to hold back. There was no smile that flitted across her lips like they usually do. Her cute dimples didn't show. I hated to see her like this.
I smiled sadly at her and took her hand. We were going to do this together. I am not leaving her, especially during this time.
It felt like the sidewalk underneath us stretched on for forever before we finally got to the small store. I opened the door and the bell dinged, making us known to all the people inside. Except we didn't really want to be known.
Kiari put her hood up and tilted her head down. She went towards the food while I went to go buy a test. I never thought I would be buying a pregnancy test.
I grabbed the nearest one and set it on the counter. The cashier looked at me with judging eyes, but I didn't mind. I was always being judged. She silently rung it up and told me the cost. I took out my wallet and payed her. She gave me the bag and I stuffed it in my pocket and thanked her. She didn't respond.
I left the store and waited for a few moments against the wall. A little girl walked by with her dogs pretty much dragging her down the road.
"Slow down George!" She grunted out in frustration, "You and Joanne are walking too fast for me!"
