In a dark room, a screen flickers to life and videos begin to play.
A young girl, her reddish hair in two ponytails, beams while twirling around, showing off her brand new school uniform and a sparkly bag. Then a man with curly black hair and tanned skin picks her up and kisses her on the nose. Calling her his precious little princess and telling her that she looks so smart. Then a small kitten tries to claw its way up the man's leg. Clearly wanting in on the attention. They both laugh.
The scene then switches.
The girl is now more grown up, 10 years old according to the time record on the bottom of the screen, and she is ice-skating. Her nose and cheeks are red and there are scrapes on her knees. She is a bit wobbly on her skates but unlike the man, she is not clinging desperately to the side for support. A woman's voice cuts through the merriment, telling the girl it is time to go. She argues and the woman argues back, voices progressively getting louder until the man steps in and de-escalates the situation. Ice cream is promised and the girl is back to being all smiley and holds the man's hand as they exit the rink.
The screen then goes black and the remote is set down. That was enough.
