~~ TRIGGER WARNING ~~
MENTIONS OF ABUSE. I DON'T EXPLAIN IT IN DETAIL, BUT I DO HINT THAT SOMETHING HAPPENS.

To everyone else, today was just a normal day just like every other day, but for Lyla, it was her 27th birthday.

Lyla groaned slightly as the sunlight hit her face.

After a few minutes of contemplating whether she wanted to get up or not, she got up and grabbed her clothes, and went to the bathroom.

Lyla made sure that any bruises were covered as she looked at herself in the mirror.

When she was happy with how she looked, she walked down to the kitchen to make some coffee.

As it was brewing, she went to get her bag.

She set her bag on the chair in the living room, before walking back into the kitchen, grabbing her travel mug and pouring some of the caffeinated beverage into it.

Looking at the time, she figured she should get going.

Making sure she had everything, she grabbed her bag on the way out the door.

She put her stuff in the car and got in the drivers seat, turning on the bluetooth and picking a song, before she started to drive.

As she pulled up to the station she saw Kate Blaire. Kate was Lyla's best friend.

Lyla parked the car, got her bag, and got out.

"Kate, wait up!" She loudly said, jogging over to her.

Kate stopped walking and waited for Lyla. She smiled as Lyla caught up to her.

"Hey! Happy birthday." Kate bumped Lyla's shoulder slightly.

Lyla chuckled slightly.

"Thanks."

The two went inside to their lockers, putting their stuff away before going to the common room.

Lyla took a seat at the table and grabbed one of the papers from the center of the table.

After a bit of sitting in comfortable silence, Kate looked over at Lyla. And Jeff, who was sitting beside Lyla.

"We're going to the bar tonight to celebrate your birthday."

"Oh, I don't know. I have to..." Lyla went to say.

"No arguments. You aren't getting out of this." Kate told her.

Lyla sighed slightly, knowing that wouldn't be a good idea.

"Fine, guess I don't have a choice." She said.

She never celebrates her birthday with friends. Just once isn't going to hurt, right?

That's what she thought. But she was wrong.

After a fun night of drinking, singing karaoke, and dancing, she made it home.

It was late. Probably around 1:30 in the morning.

Walking in the door, she was careful not to be too noisy.

She carefully and quietly shut the door, jumping when she heard Josh.

"You're late." He said, his tone steady.

Lyla turned to look at him. She couldn't tell if he was upset or not.

"Yeah. I...uh...I texted you. I went with Kate to celebrate my birthday." She told him.

"Yeah, I got your text." Josh looked at her for a second.

After a short silence, Lyla figured he was done so she went to walk to her room, to put her stuff away.
