I continue to walk to the facility, ignoring the painful blows from the alarms. Probably just another Flaw trying to escape the grid. But then I see it. On the tallest building is a holographic image of me. My brown eyes looking scared yet determine, my brown hair rests on my shoulders, like some rebellious statement. And underneath my picture is a caption reading, Untested citizen, possible Flaw, Valentine Hart. If found, bring to City Hall immediately.
So, I do the natural thing any person would do; I run. I run as fast as possible, not letting anyone or anything. People scream at me to stop, to surrender, but do I care? Not one bit.
People flank me, officers holding weapons chasing me down. They don't fire though. I notice the weapons as I glance back, tasers. Little blue sparks lick up the front of the gun, threatening to spill free.
I push harder. A cramp gnaws away at me side.
Suddenly, I'm stopped by a large, strong body. A guard stands there.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk...Valentine...you're coming with us," he grins, clearly seeing me as no threat, just another Flaw in their system of perfection.
"Not happening," I hiss, trying to duck around him. A strong arm wraps around my waist, lifting me over his shoulder. I get a glimpse of his face, handsome, blue eyes, cropped sandy hair. Aesthetic perfection. I uselessly try to punch his back and kick at his chest.
"You kidnap innocent people, and try to change them to what you think is perfect! Well, you know what? Y'all are ugly," I tried. The guard let out a hearty laugh and started walking, still holding me.
I see his eyebrows furrow down. He cranes his neck and puts his lips by my ear. "It's not up to me, sweetheart. I have a family to protect, and if that means dying my hair and wearing fancy clothes, so be it. You don't always have to agree, but you have to do what's right. For he greater good." He turns back, expressionless, as if that never happened.
Greater good my butt, I think.
We continue walking for what seems like hours.
