As you can probably tell from context, Bernard suffered from some pretty heavy social issues, similar to that of Komi Shouko from Komi-san Can't Communicate.
He used to not be able to speak to anyone at all from the intense fear. Saying one 'bad' thing could have lead him to experience an anxiety attack, or worse, a coma-inducing seizure.
But thanks to ol' himbo Boyfriend, he was able to make immense progress in improving his social skills being able to make friends with people. He's still a bit socially inept, but he's recovered to a point to where it's not a huge problem.
Not too proud of the lineart or the shading... But I think I did better last time.
