"Let's go for a ride." Kai stood up from the chair of the diner and smoothed out his navy blue shirt. As we stepped out of the diner, the sky was dark and grey clouds looked over the city. I slid into the passenger seat and buckled my seat belt as he did the same. He looked over at me and smiled and I smiled back, thinking about how happy I was with him.
Unaware that I had fallen asleep, I was startled by the swerving of the car. I looked over to where Kai had been sitting but he was gone. The seat was vacant and the the wheel twisted and turned aimlessly. Realizing the car was headed towards a cliff above the sea, I frantically attempted to remove my seatbelt but there was no buckle. I was strapped to the seat. There were no handles to open the door.
Then I saw a figure by the edge. As I came closer, I realized that the figure was Kai. He stood facing the approaching car, unmoving. I screamed out towards him and banged on the glass frantically. The only response was a slight lift of his head. I drew closer and closer to the cliff, and my cries for help were left unnoticed. There was no use. I sat back in the seat, awaiting my eminent doom. The car was now 100 feet from the edge and diminishing rapidly. Kai was still standing at the edge, his head slightly lowered.
Then, when the car was just at the edge, I turned to look at Kai as I passed. To my horror, he was grinning cynically. His eyes were bloodshot red and a few veins were protruding from his face and neck. He looked me dead in the eyes and I covered my mouth at the sight of the complete blackness that filled the holes where his eyes were supposed to be.
The last thing I saw before the car dove into the sea was his dark figure peering over the edge, watching me plunge into darkness.
