Chapter 15:Highway Robber

My ears perked up as I heard the sound of a couple of hundred bells tingling in the distance.I quickly got up from my perch on a tree and sprinted toward the clearing where someone had triggered my trap.

I quickly hid in the bushes as I observed my new targets. It was a pretty small party of three people, two boys and a single girl. The one whom I assumed was the tank had gotten tangled up in my alarm system, while the lancer tried to untangle him. The leader kept a watch on the forest, fidgeting with her armor straps.

I glanced at their weapons and armor, trying to figure out their stats. All of them had conventional low-grade weapons, while their armor was top quality. They were nothing but rookies who were afraid of dying, and trying to get some money by hunting me down.

Let's make this quick.

I clicked my tongue in frustration, before rustling the bushes to cause a distraction. I swiftly flanked the trio as soon as they turned their heads and launched my attack. I aimed for the leader first to stop them from organizing themselves and then, all hell broke loose.

Slamming into the leader, I knocked her sword to the ground. She looked around,stunned from the impact. I wasted no time as I picked up his sword and executed a two hit combo where her armor was exposed. Her hp went down rapidly, and I seized the opportunity to paralyze her. She fell to the ground, staring at me in absolute terror.

His party members had finally realized that I was behind them. The tank let out a feeble war cry as he charged towards me, wildly waving his broadsword around. I stuck my leg out, unable to keep a smile off my face as I watched his own weight work against him. He, too, crashed to the ground and I stabbed him in the back with his friend's sword, and knocked him out. I moved on to my final target. It was the lancer. His hands trembled as he pointed his spear towards me.

I smirked. It was time for some intimidation.

"You know, these paralysis daggers aren't mine. I just found them in them on the dead body of a member of the laughing coffin guild, soooo I don't really know how strong they are. Your friends are still alive, but you might die. You could always surrender, but if you want to fight,go ahead."

My bluff worked. The lancer fell to the ground, his trembling knees giving up. He held his hands up and bowed down, still shaking like a leaf." We're really sorry, please forgive us! We were foolish and though this would be an easy job, but we just wanted the cash to buy new gear!"

I threw the sword to the ground, nearly hitting his head. I kneeled near the now sobbing boy and started to whisper into his ear." I'm going to let you live, but only if you follow my instructions to the letter. You're going to give me all your coins and gear, and you're going to give me the gear and money of those two lying on the ground as well."

I slowly got up and watched as the lancer opened his inventory and gave me all his items, and then went up to his friends and made them do the same things. After I had picked up all the items, I tossed the boy the teleportation crystals I had pickpocketed from them to ensure they wouldn't escape. He nodded, and I watched him and his friends teleport away.

My adrenaline slowly wore off as I walked to the tree around which I had wrapped around all the alarm bells I had strung up through the forest. I slumped against its truck and pulled out a sandwich I had just stolen, before dropping it when another set of alarms were set off. I sighed before getting back up. If I ever saw Heathcliff, he was as good as dead for placing that bounty.

It was sunset before I was finally took care of all the people trying to capture me. Just as I thought I could maybe get some sleep tonight, another alarm went off. I lost it and started to swear at the top of my lungs before leaping though the trees to find my next group of victims.

I quickly found the forest ruins where the alarm had gone off, but before I could smash anyone's head to the ground, the sight of a black robe stopped me.

Kirito?No, it can't be.

I started at him from behind a pillar as he looked around and then nudged my alarm with his foot, setting off another series of alarms.

"Come out,Y/N. We need to talk."

I smiled as I stepped out from behind the pillar. It was time to greet my old friend.
