(Y/N) had always been a difficult child. Her mother had died shortly after she had been born and her grandmother, who had raised her, used to say that 'she had the devil inside her'. She never seemed to fit in, always had to make a mess of everything. She hated school, hated learning, hated the teachers and her classmates. Dyslexia made it hard for her to do her work, her ADHD kept her constantly on edge as if she expected to run away at any given moment and if that wasn't enough, her short temper made it practically impossible for her to make friends with anybody, as even the slightest insult made her implode. At least there was one thing she was good at: Fighting. She might have started more fights in her life than she had lived days, but she had never, not once, lost one. That was until she came to Camp Half-Blood, only twelve years old, shortly after her grandmother had died and told her everything about her heritage. She was a child of the greek gods, a halfblood, a demigod. And as such she had to live and train at Camp Half-Blood, because fighting monsters was a given.
(Y/N) had loved it there immidiately. The grounds were beautiful and vast, the training a nice way to burn all that pent-up energy and all the other teenager were just like her. She was claimed only days after she set foot in the camp. A child of Ares, the temper clearly from her father, just as her ability to fight. Her cabin welcomed her warmly, engulfed her in brotherly and sisterly love she had never known. (Y/N) had never felt so at peace. Then came Luke Castellan. He was only two years older than her, a regular at the Camp and one of the best swordfighters there was. Even though the son of Hermes was young, he was already an instructor for the other campers. Everyone looked up to him, all the girls (and some of the guys) had a massive crush on him and there was nothing, really nothing, Luke Castellan wasn't good at. All that, (Y/N) could have forgiven, but when he beat her the first time they trained together, in under a minute and without even breaking a light sweat, she swore to hate him. From then on, Luke Castellan was her enemy, her rival, a red rag, the one guy she had to beat. Luke, even though he had nothing against (Y/N), relished in that rivalry, as the young warrior always kept him on edge and forced him to get better. It was fun, fighting with her. She was an amazing swordfighter, not as good as him, but the closest anyone came in a while. And so they pushed each other year after year, summer after summer. Rivalry growing with every fight. At least for (Y/N). For Luke, things looked different. With every day they spend fighting each other, his feelings for the daughter of Ares grew. In his eyes, the girl grew more beautiful, stronger and more admirable every second and it broke his heart knowing, that she would probably never feel the same. (Y/N), even though she grew to slightly like the boy over the years, wouldn't have called him a friend. They talked seldom, especially not outside of the Arena and in there only over the simplest things, but Luke wanted more, he wanted to know everything there was to know about the fierce girl.
As the summer came to an end and the demigods prepared for another dangerous year in the outside world, Luke decided to finally ask (Y/N) out.
„So,how am I supposed to do it?", asked Luke, walking after Silena, cabin leader of the Aphrodite cabin, as she watered the rosebushes outside the Aphrodite cabin.
She blew a strand of long, dark hair out of her face: „I don't know, Luke. You've never really talked to her. You've always had this weird rivalry going. I never thought you'd fall in love with her."
„You're the daughter of Aphrodite, Silena, you have to know something I could do so she doesn't immidiately hate me.", the boy groaned, „I had never planned to fall in love with her but she's just... amazing."
„You don't even know her!", Silena insisted, „Besides, you really had to wait until the end of summer to get your ass up and do something about it, hadn't you?" - „Silena, please."
She sighed:„Fine. If you really want to ask her out... I guess, the bonfire tonight would be a good place to do it. Better than the arena, at least."
Luke jumped at that idea, hastily pressing a kiss on Silenas cheek, before running of shouting his thanks and leaving the Aphrodite girl to shake her head at his behaviour and mumbling: „He could have thought of that himself...Boys."
