The Car

I don't know how long I was asleep for but, mom finally woke me when we pulled into McDonals at midnight. The movie I was watching had go back to main menu. "Do you want anything sweetheart?" mom asked. I stretched. "Sure. Might Kids meal chicken nuggets, French fries, and a chocolate shake." mom looked hesitant about my order but knew she was on thin ice already with me. "Okay." She crawled back over a sleeping Lucy. They had both gotten out of the car to go get the stuff. Then, Lucy's door opened. One as taking her to the bathroom the other was getting the orders. I slipped in another Adam Sandler movie, Blended. I waited for my parents to come back. My mom came back an handed me my dinner. "Thanks." I replied in a small voice. "Emma, we need to talk. I know this is hard for you and I want you to know that I love you and we will get through this together." she patted my leg. "Thank you mom." I hugged her. Dad came back with Lucy and we were off. I laid back down, slipped on my headphones again and smiled. Maybe it wasn't the end of the world after all.
