Catalina's Pov:
even though i'm flying in a plane that had to cost a lot of money it doesn't matter. my life is ruined. my mom is gone and now i'm flying to meet my rich aunt who I have never met before. she lives in a little "magical" town as she calls it from the letter. i stuff my hand ungracefully into a pant pocket that my mami had sewn in for me and pull out the crumpled paper. in neat cursive says the following.

"dearest catalina,
though i am sure my sister has never spoken a word of be before i am you aunt valeria. i have been told by law that you will be coming into my home. i live in a small town- a magical town in columbia. we have many special people here. i am aware this is alot different than your life in peru. a plane will be sent to you tommorow. please remember we are both greifing your mother. please be patient with me.  love,
               auntie valeria."

i angrily ball the paper up in my hand and rip the pages apart, tears forming in my eyes. until i stop.
you shouldn't be acting like this. your in public. what would mami think? mami.. she would hug me and tell me everythings okay. she would reassure me that she is here for me.
"plane will be landing in ten minutes. please make sure your belts are fastened." i lazily buckle my belt and sigh, my head slips over my knees in a slump.
"are you are alright there?" the person beside me asks. i forgot they where there. i groggily get up and nod.
"yeah.. sorry." i say.
"it's quite alright." they smile.
----
one hour later..
the vehicle in which i was riding in comes to a stop. light from the sun glowing on my back.
"alright mi-si- this is your stop." the gentleman who drove me tips his hat to me. i nod back to him. i step out of the carriage(if you could call it that) and let my feet hit the soft ground.
"i thought valeria was rich? she paid for me to get here." i say aloud as i grab a suitcase. the driver shakes his head.
"no one here is rich." he shrugs. "it's about the community not money." he smiles, content gradititude written on his face. i smile too, it's rare places are like that.
"thank you for the drive." i wave as i start to walk up to valeria's house. as i go to open the door it opens by itself.

"hello! you must be Catalina. come in! come in!" a woman with neat black hair and wrinkles all around her brown eyes greets.
"are you valeria?" i ask.
"indeed." she smiles, dimples forming on her cheeks.
"i have dimples too!" i grin. i'm not happy to be here but if i can tough it out i guess i will make do. she softly laughs for a moment.
"alright, follow me!" she leads me through a very barren and plain looking hallway before she reaches a light blue room. "this will be your room. i hope you like it. we can always change it if you don't."
as i step inside my heart drops for a moment. the ceiling is painted with stars and constellations. the walls have flowers and clouds painted on them. a loft bed sits in front of a window. there are bookshelves filled with old classics and newer books too. there is a whole bookshelf filled with star themed books and items. i fall to my knees, a small tear gathering in my right eye.
"are you okay?" the older woman kneels beside me. i hug her softly, nodding. this is something only my mother would have known i liked. everyone would think me childish or stupid for loving the stars and clouds. i love to research the stars.
"thank you." i say into her shoulder.
"of course." valeria pulls out of the hug. she looks at me for a moment before pulling me up after her. "i know you are probably wondering what i meant by magical town in my letter." she glances at me. my hand finds the ripped up shreds of a once together letter. i nod softly.
"you'll see later. get ready, this is a special thing tonight." she says.
"oh-okay." i shrug. "what should i wear?"
"something fancy!" valeria calls from down the hallway.
----
that night..
"Come along Catalina." I skip up too Valeria leaving a astrology book to drop to the ground behind me. "Do you have any nicknames?" Valeria  asks.
"Cat." I respond, I bunch up my flowy dress in my hands. My Mami had gotten this dress for me for my birthday last year. It is a dark blue dress with sparkles and silver stars.
"Okay then Cat, let's go. There is a sort of..a ceremony in town today." Valeria tells me. I nod. We walk outside the house to clear skies. Not a cloud in sight. The street is busy as a few people walk into the biggest house down the street.
"Who lives there?" I point to the house. It is getting closer in my view.
"The Madrigals. I believe there is a boy-and girl around your age in the family." Valeria softly smiles as she continues to walk.
"What are their names?" I ask, curiosity filling my mind. I don't realize that Valeria is probably trying too set me up.
"Camilo and Mirabel." Valeria responds too my question. I nod in contentment too her answer. We continue too walk towards the house. Suddenly I see a person pick up multiple donkeys. They don't even falter!
"What- how?" I mutter. Valeria softly chuckles.
"I told you this town is magic." She proves.
"I still don't-." I go too say before I look ahead of me again. The Madrigals house seems too move by itself and there are bright flowers everywhere. There are people all around. I see a boy around my age shapeshift into the person in front of me. Shapeshifting? That's not possible... As he greets us he turns into himself again. He has brown curly hair and chocolate brown eyes. Or maybe green..Or hazel. Their are many different colors in them.
"Hi!" He says, grinning. We make eye contact for a split second. Oh gosh I can't even imagine my face right now..
"Hey." I smile back, trying too hide my embarrassment from making eye contact. "See you both tonight!" He hands me a yellow piece of paper before going too greet the next people.
"See you.." I look after him for a moment. Confusion and happiness shows on my face. As I walk inside the building I look around in wonder. I see multiple people do very magical things, acting like it's nothing and not incredible.
"Do all the Madrigals have powers?" I ask Valeria. She nods. I look up the hallway and see a family tree of the Madrigals. "Wow.." I smile. It's incredible too think anyone let alone these village people would have..powers.
"You can go find something to do. I'm sure you will be able to." Valeria smiles.
