MEREDITH MALFOY

We walked into the Great Hall and I froze for a second. Just a few feet from where I was standing, they laid my Godfather's body down when they found him. Severus Snape. Another one of the things I lost that day. Maybe it was karma. I don't know. Draco took my hand and pulled me to the table. "I know. It's ok," he whispered. We sat down and Pansy winced as she clutched Theo's shoulder and lifted her leg over the bench. "You ok, Pans?" I asked. She nodded. "Just stiff, I can't move it much. I'll be fine." she said. I nodded. I knew Pansy, she was in pain. But she wouldn't tell us that. She didn't want to be seen as weak. I know the feeling.

HARRY POTTER

"Look at them, the fucking audacity" Ron snapped. "They got letters, the same as us, Ron. They have every right to be here." Hermione said. "They shouldn't have any rights. They should be in Azkaban." he said. "But they aren't." she said. "I'm just saying. They think that wearing muggle clothes will convince us they've changed. Bullshit." he spat. "Ronald. The charges were dropped so will you drop it?" Hermione snapped. Ron and Hermione broke up over the summer apparently. Hermione said she got sick of Ron's anger at the world. She said the war is over and she wanted to start over. She told me he was too busy being angry to start over with her. If I'm being completely honest, I don't give a fuck what either of them do with their time. I don't care who Ron fucks, I don't care who Hermione fucks. I just wish they'd leave me the hell alone.

"So Harry, how was your summer?" Hermione asked. I was staring at the podium. For a moment, just a moment, I was waiting for Dumbledore to come to the podium and give a speech. Those long speeches used to annoy me but now I'd give anything to hear him make up a metaphor and say some deep quote that makes no sense. "Harry," Ron said. "What?" I snapped. Their faces fell. "I'm sorry, I just- I was thinking." I mumbled. They nodded.

"We wanted to tell you that the school has made some changes. The prefects will all be sharing one wing." Hermione said. "I won't be bunking with you this year. Apparently, I have to share a dorm with all the male house prefects. At least we get our own rooms," he said. "What we're saying is we won't be living in Gryffindor house," Hermione said. I shrugged. "I understand, you guys are prefects." I said. "You want to know the best part about this? Guess who the Slytherin prefects are? The Malfoy twins. Isn't that rich?" Ron said. I shrugged. "I don't really care," I mumbled. "I mean, I know you testified for them but you don't actually feel bad for them, do you?" Ron asked. I rolled my eyes. "I'm not hungry," I said. I stood up and grabbed my stuff. "Where are you going?" Hermione asked. "Back to my dorm," I said. They said bye and I left. I was walking down the halls when someone called out my name and I stopped. I turned around and it was them. Fucking great.

"Potter, wait-" Draco said. I sighed and stood there as they walked over to me. "What do you want?" I asked. "We- um- we walked to talk to you- to thank you-" Draco stammered. I shrugged. "Ok. Is that it?" I asked. "We wanted to thank you and we wanted to apologize." Meredith said. I looked at her and my eyes wandered to her forearm. "You got a tattoo?" I asked. There was a tattoo design where her mark once was. She quickly pulled down her sleeve. "We're sorry. I'm not going to give you reasons or justifications for what we did because it doesn't matter. What we did was wrong and I'm sorry," she said. I nodded. "I'm sorry too." Draco added. "Ok, can I go now?" I asked. They exchanged glances and nodded. "Yeah- um- yes. Sorry for bothering you," she said quietly. I turned on my heel and walked away.

RON WEASLEY

Finally that stupid prefect meeting was over. I stood there watching Meredith Malfoy the whole time, she acted so innocent, so reformed. Like she was a good person. She wasn't. I was walking into my room when I heard a small voice. "Weasley-" I turned around and she stood there behind me. I glared at her and crossed my arms. "What the fuck do you want?" I spat. "I just- I wanted to say I'm sorry. I wanted to apologize." she said. I laughed and her face fell. "Apologize? Why? Are you a good person now? You think wearing muggle clothes and getting a tattoo to cover the other one changes anything?" I hissed. I backed her against the wall and she looked up at me with fear in her eyes. "Please- just-" she started. "Shut up! You should be dead right now! Not my friends, not my brother!" he said. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." she pleaded. "You think you deserve forgiveness?" I asked. "No- I mean- I don't know- maybe-" she stammered. "If you want my forgiveness, you're going to have to earn it." I said. Her body tensed up. "How?" she asked. "I'll let you know. See you soon." I said. Then I left her there shaking.
