Rebecca Ross' part----"What about you, Clem? What do you dream of by day?" I closed my eyes, as if I could see my desire, resting just beyond my reach. "I dream of finding a new home. Of bringing something broken back together, and not just with magic but with stories and friendship and good food." When I looked at Phelan again, I caught a glimmer in his eyes, as if he dreamt the same things as me. I leaned closer to him until our lips met, polite and cautious and then hungry and familiar, and my heart was suddenly racing. But for the first time in months, there was no pain. "I have something for you," he said with a smile, drawing away from me. Intrigued, I listened as he reached for something in his pocket. ----
(Fanfiction part)
'I've..been meaning to give you.." he said with a hint of hesitation "Actually, I've been meaning to ask you.." and very suddenly he stood up, staring right at me. Had it not been for my curiosity he might have finished his sentence "what Phelan ?" As I spoke his name, I sensed his magic gathering. Glimmers of light floated all around us. It was like the stars of the night sky had fallen to greet us. I sat amazed in the cold air of the night with Phelan's cloak still around me. I drifted my gaze upwards to the night sky. It was finally over, and I felt home. It warmed me in the cold of the night.
It wasn't until I lowered my gaze back down to Phelan that I noticed he was on his knee, with a square little black box in his hands. "My Grace, Clementine of Hereswith" he started "Will you be my partner...my duchess ...my wife ?" he finally finished. The silence of the night left nothing but the sound of our hearts and the twinkle of Phelan's magic stars surrounding us. I could see our life here, flashing before my eyes. Sunny skies and starry nights void of new moon battles. Just us and our new home, with our loved ones. Promises of better days. I could picture Imonie and mother asking me when the baby is due. Father teaching the little ones magic, as he did with me. Mazarine Brin walking about the castle of Seren and Phelan beside me as he tends to the needs of our people; our new neighborhood. Emotions filled me with warmth and tears began to flow "Yes!" I managed to say "Yes, Phelan!" giggling "My Grace!"
With what seemed like relief, Phelan re-gathered his composure and opened the small little black box. In it, was a ring with a green stone shaped like an oval mirror, it was held in a silver border and two snakes formed and circled the band holding the stone. It immediately reminded me of that far-away night when Phelan rescued me in his boat after a snake had bit me. As if he was reading my mind Phelan started telling me the meaning of it, and stopped when he understood that he didn't have to explain
" I had Mr. Wolfe make it for you!" he excitedly proclaimed "and my mother.." and just as he was speaking, a portrait of us appeared and moved inside the stone! "My mother insisted on adding a touch of her art in it" he continued "I think she felt bad for how she acted and wanted to gift you something special." I was mesmerized by the magic I once longed to achieved, but nothing mattered more to me in that moment than to embrace Phelan and kiss my fiance. " I love you Phelan!" I said standing up. He smiled, grateful of seeing my content with his ring design "I love you, Clem!" and we kissed once more in the silence of the night. Magic and passion raging all arround us.
"A wedding, sounds really nice after ending a century old curse, doesn't it ?" Phelen finished, giving me his arm "Your Grace" he teased "Shall we?" as we made our way back to our new home.
The END
Note from the fanfiction author: Thank you for reading. This is my first fanfiction. Please be nice (I have no intention of being an author as well)
So I wanted to state that I deeply enjoyed Rebecca Ross's book. However, I tuly felt I needed to add this final scene to the book instead of Phelan gifting her some art supplies in the garden (To me that would come a little later)
Now, if this was made into a series or a movie I would enjoy seeing a wedding scene (Because who doesn't like a wedding scene?) I can picture little Elle as the flower girl and the throne room with two chairs looking bright and sunny and blooming with flowers; to wich wardens are magicly creating in preparation for the wedding.
Finally, I can also picture the scene of Rebecca Ross' ending where Phelan brings her to a room in their castle, where he had an art studio made for her as a wedding gift.
Lastly, I would also add a funny end of credits scene with maybe the Master of coin, somewhere in a market screaming to the crowds "Dreams lie beneath!" like a crazy fanatic; penniless and sad that he no longer has the dream tax. Or perhaps Mezarine Brin staring at herself in a mirror. Glad to have regained her true self as a troll. Additionally, if the Author Rebecca Ross wanted to continue this world she could add a scene of Lennox, Phelan's brother contemplating taking the throne from his brother just as his mother had tried with her brother centuries ago. Bringing back a new curse and calling all wardens to fight dreams once more. So many ideas!
