The first chapter of my book!
I rewrote some parts to make the chapter make more sense!
I hope you like itt!!!
"Welcome to New York!"
The words are written on the sign as I drive past it in my used car, which I bought with my money.
The city's skyline looms ahead, promising endless opportunities and excitement.
I can't help but feel a surge of anticipation as I drive through the busy streets, ready to explore all that New York has to offer.
The 8-hour drive that I had to endure now seems worth it as I start seeing the rush of the large city.
My goal rings in the back of my mind: prove your parents wrong.
My parents always loved my brother, Luke, more than me, even when I was young.
They often forgot about my special events, like plays in school or even my birthdays.
I have not had a birthday since I was 9, and I am now 18. I never want to celebrate my birthday again.
All of the ways I tried to make Luke's birthday special each year still haunt me.
Why did I never get that?
The only thought that crossed my mind during the hour I spent stuck in traffic was; What if my parents were right?
Without realising it, the traffic eased, and now I was approaching the campus that looked magnificent in the photos that I looked up.
Parking in the parking spot assigned to my dorm house, I left the car and walked down to reception.
Knocking on the doors of reception, I slowly enter and see a sweet-looking lady sitting behind the desk.
''Welcome, dear!" She says her face brightens when she sees me.
''Good afternoon. I am here to collect my schedule and dorm keys'' I tell her with a similar smile.
''What is your name, dear?" she asks, turning her chair towards the computer.
I hope my roommate is nice and not a stuck-up bitch.
I respond, "My name is Layla." She types my name into the computer and hands me my schedule and keys.
''Here you are," she says, with a warm smile.
''Your roommate is Jade Brown; she has already moved in and will be able to give you a tour of our campus'' The receptionist adds.
I thank her and walk back to my car to get all my belongings, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves about meeting my new roommate.
I took out my only suitcase from the car since I did not have a lot at 'home'.
